‘Law & Order: SVU’: Mariska Hargitay Gushes About Chris Meloni as He Honors Her Work at Event

It’s rare to see two Hollywood stars like Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay employ the same friendship towards one another on-screen and off-screen like the two legendary actors share.

Entertainment Tonight caught up with Hargitay before she took part in the #GlamourWOTY2021 awards where her longtime partner in crime no Law & Order: SVU honored her.

Hargitay said, “After my husband, he knows me pretty well. So it’s very meaningful, especially after the journey we have had together these 22 years. The creative journey and trust and friendship. And he sort of has seen it all. You know, gotten in there, and gotten dirty. So it’s very meaningful to me.”

It’s clear from Hargitay’s message that Meloni means a lot to her. It’s also clear that Hargitay means a lot to Meloni for him to honor her in this fashion.

How it all got started on Law & Order: SVU

Over 22 years ago, it started with Meloni taking a screen test and Hargitay immediately being enthralled and saying that she had seen enough and she wanted him by her side on the show. “I walked in, saw him, and I went, ‘That guy. That’s the guy.’ It went deep, very fast.”

Hargitay continued, “We both knew that it was something big. I won’t say that I fully understood it, but I knew that meeting him was important and life-changing.”

Man, isn’t it funny how life works sometimes? That sometimes you just know that you are on the precipice of something great but you can’t quite articulate it. You just know. Hargitay knew that Meloni would be her long-time partner-in-crime before she even shot a scene with him. Now, both are still on NBC doing what they love on different spinoffs under the same umbrella.

Speaking of that, both actors reconvened briefly on Law & Order: SVU, back where it all started, and if you were wondering how that went just ask Hargitay who said, “There was so much shorthand between us, which all goes back to the trust we have. He’s always made me feel like I could just jump off the ledge, the cliff, the bridge, and he would catch me, in so many ways, whether it was comedy or acting or friendship.”

Time may pass, but nothing changes when these two NBC legends link up. That much is sure. You can still watch both Hargitay and Meloni on NBC on their respective shows, Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime.
