We’re smack-dab in the middle of summer and Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay can’t get enough of the season.
Since 1999, crime TV fans have known Hargitay well. As Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU, the actor has become a household name thanks to her character’s balance between being tough on criminals but empathetic of people’s problems.
Typically, when major celebrities post on Instagram, especially a selfie, they always make sure you can see their face. Well, Hargitay is a bit more down-to-earth than that as her face is barely visible in the fun post.
Obviously, the focus of this particular shot isn’t herself, but those classic summer vibes. The sun is out and shining for the Law & Order: SVU star, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
As one might expect, plenty of fans commented their praise for Hargitay saying that it was either a funny or cute post. It may not be the best photo of Hargitay, but that was never the point, was it?
Law & Order: SVU Star Mariska Hargitay Got to Act with Her Dad
For those who are unaware, Hargitay was born into entertainment royalty. Her father was Mickey Hargitay, a Mr. Universe winner, and her mother was Jayne Mansfield, a model and actor.
So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Hargitay found a career in the spotlight. While she had a successful and diverse career up until Law & Order: SVU, it was the wildly popular show that truly solidified her place in entertainment history.
Perhaps one of the most special moments of her entire career is getting to bring on her dad to SVU. In Season 5’s episode, “Control,” her father portrayed a witness to the episode’s titular crime. Of course, the show also fits in a moment where Hargitay’s Benson interviews her father’s character.
It marked the final acting role for Mickey Hargitay. He had long been retired from on-screen activities at that point, save for the occasional appearance. But of all his various work, it was truly unlike anything else he had appeared in.
Sadly, Mickey Hargitay passed away less than three years later at the age of 80. He passed away from a form of cancer called multiple myeloma.
