In a Law & Order: SVU clip posted today by the Law & Order Twitter account, Benson and Carisi worry about Garland. The clip is from the season 22 finale of the hit procedural, which aired last week. While the majority of the finale was lighthearted, it’s clear that Garland’s in trouble.

The clip starts with Benson and Carisi asking Garland, whose clutching his chest if he’s okay. He’s clearly not. Garland came under fire by the chief of police and was shunned by his colleagues after speaking out against racial profiling in the NYPD. Now, Garland is in hot water and could potentially lose his job.

It appears that the effects of this stress are taking a physical toll on Garland as well. Not only do Benson and Carisi catch him clutching his chest, but he tells Benson at the end of the finale that he needs to take some time off to get some “tests done.”

While it’s clear that there’s going to be a lot of trouble for Garland next season, fans are truly hoping for the best, responding to the clip with support for Garland.

“y’all better not hurt Garland next season,” one fan said. Another fan echoed the sentiment.

“if y’all get rid of Garland I’m going to show up at ur doorstep with a pitchfork and a torch,” they wrote.

Fans will have to wait to find out the fate of Garland. Law & Order: SVU will air its 23rd season this fall. It’ll air alongside Law & Order: Organized Crime which focuses on former SVU detective Elliot Stabler. A new show, Law & Order: For the Defense has also been picked up by NBC. For the Defense will focus on a group of defense lawyers.

Elliot Stabler Returned to ‘Law & Order: SVU’ for the Finale

The Law & Order: SVU finale saw Benson and Stabler reunite. Fans were thrilled to see Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni, return. Stabler showed up late to a wedding that wound up not happening anyways, but still shared some touching moments with his former colleagues. He and Benson wound up clinking glasses after a touching toast about partners.

Meloni left SVU in 2011 following a contract dispute. Now, it looks like his swiftly ended storyline that got picked up with Organized Crime will now continue to overlap with SVU. Hopefully, fans can expect more crossover events in the future.

As far as Garland is concerned, however, things may look more bleak. Hopefully fans will be satisfied with whatever happens to Garland in the next season. Now, all fans can do is wait.
