‘Law & Order: SVU’ Actor Mariska Hargitay Revealed Her All-Time Favorite Guest Star

Since its premiere in 1999, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” has been known for intense storylines. Many of these storylines have included some amazing guest stars.

During a 2018 interview with TV Insider, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” star, Mariska Hargitay discussed some of her favorite guest stars during the hit show’s unprecedented success.

“Robin Williams,” the “Special Victims,” said when asked who her favorite guest stars may be.

Mariska Hargitay added that one of the “Law and Order” set photographers actually caught a photo of her son, August who was just under two years old at the time, playing with the iconic comedian during his guest-starring stint.

“It was being in the presence of true greatness,” she said. “He had a huge heart.”

A Tragic Role For a Favorite Comedian

During his season 9 “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” guest-starring role, Robin Williams appeared as the anti-authoritarian vigilante Merrit Rook. After experiencing a devastating tragedy that led to the death of his wife and unborn child, Williams’s character seeks to find justice by balking in the face of authority where he can.

The 2008 episode was a moving storyline that questioned how far someone would go to right seemingly unfixable wrongs.

During the TV Insider interview, Mariska Hargitay noted another guest star she enjoyed working with during the “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’s” first years on the air.

A 2002 “Law and Order” Episode That Led to a Marraige Has Memorable Guest-Star

“John Ritter was another great light,” the actress noted of the 2002 guest appearance.

During the season three episode “Monogamy,” Ritter played the role of an anguished psychiatrist, Dr. Richard Manning. Manning’s wife Nicole is savagely attacked. The attack leads to the death of Nicole’s unborn child. It is later revealed that the psychiatrist knows more about the assault than he is initially willing to admit. The episode ends with a startling revelation that devastates Ritter’s character.

Mariska Hargitay added that it was during the filming of this episode that she met her husband, Peter Hermann. Hermann has had a recurring role on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” since 2002. His regular portrayal of attorney Trevor Langan led to an onset romance between the two actors.

Peter Hermann appeared on “Blue Bloods” as the ex-husband of Frank Reagan’s only daughter, Erin Reagan. In 2015, Hermann started his seven-season run on the TV Land series “Younger.” The popular television moved to the Paramount+ network for its final season in 2021.

Peter Hermann and Mariska Hargitay were married on August 28, 2004, just two years after they first met on the “Law and Order” set. The couple has a son, August who was born in 2006. In 2011 the couple adopted a daughter, Amaya. And, in October of 2011, the couple adopted another baby, their son, Andrew.
