Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay voiced her support for former co-star Ellen Burstyn.

Deadline recently announced that Burstyn will be joining Organized Crime in the show’s second season. The outlet reported that she will not premiere in the premiere episode but rather later on in the season.

Burstyn portrayed Eliot Stabler’s mother, Bernadette Stabler. She guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU roughly thirteen years ago. Her portrayal was able to earn her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.

In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, August 5, Hargitay shared a selfie with her former co-star. “The one, the only, Ellen Burstyn,” she wrote alongside a heart emoji.

Fans in the comment section theorized that since the selfie looked recent, this could mean that SVU and Organized Crime will reunite with Stabler’s mother present.

In addition to Ellen, there were two other Organized Crime additions to the cast.

Ron Cephas Jones is set to play Congressman Leon Kilbride. He is a “born politician who fosters connections and always plays his cards right.”

In addition, Vinnie Jones will play the role of Albi Briscu. His character’s description reads, “Eastern European gangster who is the last remaining member of the organization from the old country.”

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 24

Law & Order: SVU Season 24 is coming this fall. The premiere will take place on September 23 at 8 PM ET. The premiere will feature a special 2-hour episode. Following SVU‘s premiere is the Season 2 debut episode of Organized Crime. The following week, SVU will once again air at 8 PM ET followed by 2 hour long new episodes of Organized Crime. The following week the series will resume their typical air times at 9 and 10 PM respectively.

Originally, there was going to be an entire 3-hour block of Law & Order spinoffs for their fall Thursday night schedule. Creators came up with For The Defense, a potential spinoff. This would have been telling the stories of criminal defense attorneys, not officers. It was rumored that it would have been focused on Law & Order: SVU alum Rafel Barba, played by Raul Esparza. Unfortunately, it was reported that executives nixed the idea before they even watched the pilot episode.

The show was picked up for another season in 2021 so we haven’t seen the end of this police posse. Additionally, the franchise creators have teased that there will be more crossover episodes between SVU and Organized Crime. Both shows are currently filming their respective seasons and will be airing back to back.

Fans can rest assured that there will be more Olivia Benson and Eliot Stabler moments.

“Don’t twitch, attention will be paid to Benson and Stabler,” writer Julie Martin teased on Twitter. “They have a lot to talk about in Season 23.

Mariska Hargitay ended up injuring her leg (not while working) back in July. She suffered from a broken knee, a hairline fracture in her ankle, and a torn ligament.

NBC confirmed to TV Line that Benson’s injury will be addressed during the first episode back.
