‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay Recent Dubbed One of Glamour’s Women of the Year
Last month, Glamour made Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay one of its Women of the Year. She recently opened up to the magazine about her life away from the SVU set. She looks back on the exhausting summer, her minor health problems, and the global pandemic.
“I felt like an octopus being pulled apart in so many directions,” the Law & Order star explained. “Sometimes when you’re in those moments, it’s a lot. And you’re like, ‘How am I going to climb this mountain?’ But here I am today going, ‘It was a kick-a— week.’”
While speaking about her real-life experiences, the Law & Order icon stated, “I think I learned about crisis very young. And I learned very young that sh— happens and there’s no guarantees. And we keep going. Then we transform it.”
The actress dealt with crisis at a very young age. Her mother Jayne Mansfield passed away following a car accident when she was three. Hargitay describes her approach to handling tough situations has kind of become her superpower. “I’ve spent the last 50 – how old am I? 57, so 54 years sort of trying to figure out what happened and why. And what am I suppose to do with it?”
Hargitay goes on to state she was in a “frozen place” for a lot of her childhood with trying to survive and actually surviving. “My life has been a process of unfeeling the layers and trust and trusting again.”

While continuing to chat with Glamour, Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay discusses meeting Chris Meloni for the first time. She admitted she confused him with Mad Men star John Slattery at his audition.
“I said, ‘Slattery!’ He goes, ‘Meloni!’” Hargitay recalled. She then described Meloni as being a bull, intellectual, clear, focused, and funny. “He’s a ballbuster. And to see him back, faster, he’s like a bionic man.”
