Fans of Law & Order: SVU adore Carisi and Rollins as a couple. They even have a cute social media nickname — Rollisi.
But with Monday’s announcement that two recurring characters are returning for a January episode, is Rollisi going to be OK?
Here’s why the cute couple might be in trouble. The two returning characters on Law & Order: SVU also happen to be former love interests of Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish). Will they compete with Carisi (Peter Scanavino) for her attention?
TV Line reported that Donal Logue is returning to Law & Order: SVU to reprise his role as Lt. Declan Murphy. He played Murphy from seasons 15 through 17. The new story line has Murphy finishing his undercover assignment. And then he asks Olivia Benson and the detectives with SVU for help. There are hate crimes happening throughout the city. Are they coordinated?
Murphy also is the father of Rollins’ oldest daughter, Jessie.
And if Murphy isn’t enough to rock Rollisi, maybe the appearance of Sgt. Khaldun will do it. Ari’el Stachel played Khaldun, another Rollins love interest, for three episodes in seasons 21 and 22. His last appearance was April 8 in the episode Welcome to the Pedo Hotel. Khaldun is a transit cop who did some undercover work with Rollins. As part of their cover, the two pretended to be involved. But he also wanted that role outside of the undercover job.
The new Law & Order: SVU episode is set for sometime in January.
Warren Leight, the showrunner for Law & Order: SVU, retweeted the TV Line story. And he got the SVU fans all stirred up. While most fans of the show clamor over a potential hookup of Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni), they also love Rollisi. The two kissed in the season 22 finale.
Here’s a sampling of the Law & Order: SVU fans worrying about a couple of their favorite characters. These were tweets to Leight.
“I don’t know what to make of this. Except that you know how to panic the senses of the viewers. Not everyone is a producer. But what impact will this have on the Rollisi? Why dig up this non-existent father?Maybe so that he gives his paternal rights to Carisi?”
Another wrote: “Ugh I was excited for a minute because I liked this character but you just know they’re gonna use him to throw a wrench in Amanda and Carisi’s life. No one on this show can ever just be happy.”
And then another fan cheered for all the male characters returning. Raul Esparza appears Dec. 9 to reprise his role as Barba, the ADA turned defense lawyer. “Ooh…the thick plottens! Excited to see both Donal Logue and Ari’el Stachel returning to their recurring roles. This is the icing on the cake that is Raul Esparza’s appearance on December 9!”
But not all the SVU fans were worried about Rollisi. One wrote to Leight: “NO FREAKIN WAY!!!!! Hand to god i was going to tag you and ask if we could see his characters return anytime soon!! This is so awesome! Thanks.”
