Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order: SVU just posted an intense promotional picture ahead of the 22nd season finale. The finale is set to air tonight. The episode will have a deep overarching storyline and starts by following Benson and Kat as they work to help a single mother who finds herself in horrific circumstances.

“Tonight,” Hargitay teased, followed by a photo of her playing her character, Olivia Benson.

Thankfully for fans, Law and Order: SVU is coming back for the 23rd season, so there’s no need to worry. Not only that but tonight will be a big night for fans of the Law and Order franchise. Law & Order: Organized Crime, which stars Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler also airs its finale tonight. The show is wrapping up its first season.

However, for fans who are too exhausted for an SVU ender that’s a cliffhanger or a downer, the writers get it. “It has been such a horrible year for so many people,” showrunner Warren Leight told TV Line. “We chose to end on a more hopeful note, rather than having somebody held hostage.”

This isn’t the first writer’s room to decide to take a more hopeful and optimistic approach for their season finale. NCIS: Los Angeles also ended on a more positive note than usual, with showrunners citing the tough year fans had due to the pandemic as a reason.

The ‘Law and Order: SVU’ Actress Recently Suffered a Major Injury

After filming for this season of Law & Order: SVU wrapped, Mariska Hargitay suffered a major leg injury that put her in the hospital. According to a post made by Hargitay, she had a broken knee, a hairline fracture in her ankle, and a torn ligament.

She stayed positive throughout, and will hopefully make a full recovery.

Hargitay Has Broken a Major ‘Gunsmoke’ Record

Twenty-two seasons is certainly nothing to scoff at. In fact, it’s record-breaking. Mariska Hargitay has played a leading character on a television series longer than any other actor. This beats out the record previously held by James Arness and Milburn Stone, who starred in Gunsmoke for 20 years.

And it doesn’t look like Hargitay is going anywhere soon if Law and Order franchise producer Dick Wolf has anything to say about it. The pioneer for the franchise is a big Hargitay fan, and the series has done incredibly well. You can watch Hargitay’s performance tonight on NBC and see for yourself how both finales go down.
