It’s hard to think of a role that’s better cast than Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson on NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU.” Even though she’s raising a family of her own and some injuries put her through “months of hell,” Hargitay continues to give the beloved role her all. And that’s why Glamour also made Hargitay their latest cover girl. Actually, the whole issue centers around women empowerment and they named Mariska one of 2021’s Women of the Year.

In the past, she’s spoken to the longevity of her career and the show saying, “Basically, we’re telling compelling stories that are close to our hearts, our souls, and our core. Olivia is a champion of healing — the mother figure we all want.” Well, the “champion of healing’s” latest advocacy comes in the shape of honoring real-life NYPD officers from the Special Victims Unit.

Mariska Hargitay Meets the Real Life Officers That She Portrays on ‘Law & Order: SVU’

When Mariska Hargitay went to support New Yorkers running a marathon, she didn’t know who she’d end up meeting. During the course of events, the star ended up encountering some of “New York’s finest.” Actually, Mariska Hargitay met the real-life officers from NYPD’s SVU that she portrays on “Law & Order: SVU.” This snap captured that special moment:

As you can see, the officer beside Hargitay dons a jacket from the official SVU squad and fans in the comments can’t get enough of the interaction. User @stefs84_ writes “This is so cool. These are THEIR stories.”

That, of course, is the infamous phrase that sounds off at the beginning of each episode. But it wouldn’t be complete without a DUN DUN after, so there you have it.

How Watching The Show and Hearing Tips from Olivia Benson Might Have Saved One Girl’s Life

Back in May, Mariska Hargitay partnered with the TODAY Show to surprise one very special viewer. The 11-year-old girl from Florida says she took what she learned from watching Mariska Hargitay on “Law & Order: SVU” and used it to fend off an attacker. She even helped the police catch him.

Alyssa recounts how her quick-thinking and some blue slime were the keys to identifying the man that tried to attack her. By rubbing it all over him during the struggle, police were later able to identify the suspect by the residue and physical evidence.

Mariska hops on camera to tell Alyssa that she’s her hero and that “the whole squad is blown away.” Alyssa gets emotional saying “I never thought I’d ever get the chance to meet you.”

You can watch their heart-warming interaction here, but get ready for the waterworks and don’t say we didn’t warn you:
