Sometimes, a sweet photo can brighten someone’s day. “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay shares one of her alongside her husband.

Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson on the long-running NBC crime drama, took to Instagram on Tuesday night. She shares this photo with her husband, actor Peter Hermann. Take a look at the pic in which Hargitay writes, “He’s home.”

Hermann, who plays a recurring role as Defense Attorney Trevor Langan on “Law & Order: SVU,” and Hargitay have been married since Aug. 28, 2004. They have three children, two by adoption.

As for her TV career, it’s going great. Hargitay has been on the show for 22 seasons, many of those partnering with Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler. Despite Meloni leaving “Law & Order: SVU” in 2011, Hargitay remained in her role.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Has Been With Show Since Its First Season

She’s the only member of that cast who has been with the show since its first season. Actor-rapper Ice-T joined in the second season as Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola. He’s still on the show, too.

Hargitay was born on Jan. 23, 1964, to actress Jayne Mansfield and bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay. Sadly, Mariska lost her mother in an automobile accident on June 29, 1967. She was in the car and suffered injuries. Mariska would go on to be raised by her father and his third wife, Ellen Siano. Hargitay divorced Mansfield in 1964. Mickey Hargitay died in 2006 at 80 years old.

“Law & Order: SVU” is part of the “Law & Order” franchise started by creator and executive producer Dick Wolf. It is Wolf who, at the auditions for the “SVU” lead roles, simply said Hargitay and Meloni are the top choices. That’s how Hargitay, after years of working in different series as star and guest star, landed the role of a lifetime.

Hargitay Admits Seeing Meloni Leave Show Wasn’t A Lot Of Fun

When you work with someone on a TV series as close as Hargitay did with Meloni for 12 seasons, seeing him leave wasn’t easy.

Obviously, Meloni is back in the “Law & Order” fold with a new show, “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” He reprises his role as Stabler and makes an appearance in an “SVU” episode last season. His new show is being picked up for a second season by NBC.

Back to him leaving, though. Hargitay had a few thoughts regarding what the tandem did together on “Law & Order: SVU” during their time.

“I think we connected on so many different levels, which is really a gift with any human being,” Hargitay told Variety. “But we went through so much in the first 12 years and dug so deep and had a very full relationship and a very honest one and brave one.

“And we also experienced so much together for the first time that quite frankly,” she says, “nobody, including our spouses, really understood because we lived something and we created this baby together being Law & Order Special Victims Unit.”
