Law & Order: SVU just took fans on a tear-jerking walk down memory lane. This is ahead of the Season 23 premiere next week.

With over two decades on its belt, Law & Order: SVU has a ton of old memories to re-live. Seriously, the show aired before the turn of the century. Mariska Hargitay is still on board as Olivia Benson and doing as good as ever.

Season 23 of Law & Order: SVU is set to start with a bang. With a two-hour premiere special, Law & Order: SVU will say goodbye to two regular characters, Kat and Garland. The premiere episode will also see Benson and the rest of the squad take on one of their most high-profile cases yet when they link a congressman with presidential ambitions to a sex trafficking ring.

Season 23 may feel particularly nostalgic for fans because it’ll contain Law & Order: SVU’s 500th episode. Most shows don’t even get to celebrate 100, but the show keeps on telling stories production feels are important while keeping things fresh enough that the show remains topical.

But the walk down memory lane takes a special look at Law & Order fans’ favorite duo: Benson and Stabler. While Stabler actor Chris Meloni left Law & Order: SVU over a decade ago, he returned last year with his own show, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which frequently has crossover events with SVU.

The ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Clip Shows Adorable Moments Between Benson and Stabler

The clip shows old videos of Benson and Stabler together including one adorable moment where Stabler Offers to walk Benson up to her apartment and Benson responds “I’m not a civilian.”

“You aren’t a superhero either,” he Replies.

Benson finally caves in, letting him know she’s safe when she eventually gets up. The video also shows Benson and Stabler have touching interactions with Fin Totula, played by Ice T.

The video ends by Stabler telling Benson that he’d giver her his kidney, to which Benson simply replies, “Not if I give you mine first.”

You can check out the video below.

“Before we see what these three get up to in eight days, let’s take a walk down memory lane,” the Twitter account for the show wrote.

The compilation of touching, personal moments between the three SVU characters is a reminder of why fans tune in to the show. It’s not just for the cases, but for the characters, they’ve come to know and love so much over the years. That care has only deepened as the show’s gotten older. Now, there are people watching that weren’t even born when the first season was released.

Law & Order: SVU returns on Thursday, September 23rd. Law & Order: Organized Crime returns on the same night. If fans loved having the two shows air back to back every Thursday, that’s going to happen once again this year, but this time Law & Order: Organized Crime gets a full season.
