LeVar Burton Plans to Host Trivial Pursuit Game Show

by Jonathan Howard

Fans that wanted to see LeVar Burton host Jeopardy! should be excited about a new Trivial Pursuit-based game coming to TV. There are other board game adaptations coming to the small screen as well.

So, he isn’t going to be the replacement for Alex Trebek, however, the former host of Reading Rainbow is on to something new. The actor has expressed his interest in hosting a game show, while he thought he would take a stab at Jeopardy! it just wasn’t meant to be. Fans lobbied for it, but producers went another direction with Mayim Bialik. There was also the Mike Richards ordeal.

If you liked playing Trivial Pursuit growing up, well this is going to be your game. The new show will be based on the popular game. There have been previous iterations of the show, but they were not long-lasting. Attempts in the 1990s and in the 2000s only lasted about a year. Deadline broke everything down about the new eOne venture and the other board game-based shows coming to TV.

Here is what LeVar Burton himself said about the show. “Trivial Pursuit is one of the best-known brands in the gaming universe. I am thrilled to have partnered with Hasbro and eOne to bring this beloved game to market as a premium show for television.”

President of eOne, Tara Long also had a statement about the new show. “LeVar Burton has been an iconic member of American pop culture for decades from Roots to Reading Rainbow to Star Trek and beyond. His love for intellectual curiosity paired with his ability to connect with audiences worldwide make him the perfect partner to bring Hasbro’s believed trivia game to households in a new and exciting way.”

LeVar Burton has been busy with other projects as well.

LeVar Burton Directs Episode of NCIS: Hawai’i

This is the debut season of NCIS: Hawaii, and they are doing everything to make this a successful season. Part of that is having LeVar Burton direct an episode. Earlier this month, fans got to see Burton’s work behind the camera. He also has directing credits from the New Orleans spinoff. So the NCIS world is not new to him.

In fact, he directed 10 episodes total over the course of four years. With his focus on Hawai’i now, fans are excited. It is just amazing to see all the things that Burton has done and continues to do over the years. Whether he is bringing a character to life on screen, or directing others as they do the same, or hosting a game show, he can do it all and more.

LeVar Burton should be given some kind of special award. I’m not sure what, but we should all agree to just make one up. He has been a positive and comforting figure in media for decades. Here’s to many more years and many more projects from the do-it-all man.
