Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert is showing off her new “Half Pint.”
On Wednesday, Gilbert posted a photo of her new granddaughter on Instagram. She captioned it “Happy Nana!”
It doesn’t seem that long ago that Pa Ingalls was calling Laura, “Half Pint,” does it? But it’s been a minute since Little House on the Prairie ended its incredible run in 1983. By then, Gilbert, as Laura Ingalls, was married to Almanzo Wilder with her own family.
Gilbert announced the news of her first grandchild earlier this month. Ripley Lou Brinkman was born June 8, weighing a healthy 7.7 pounds. She’s the daughter of Gilbert’s son, Dakota Brinkman, and his wife, Marissa.
The Little House on the Prairie star posted on Instagram: “Everyone is healthy and doing well. So proud of my son Dakota and his wife @martobes. She was a warrior through the whole process, and he was the perfect partner to her. Next up, traveling to Texas to meet our new granddaughter.”
The new parents live in the Austin area. And according to Gilbert’s post from Wednesday, she’s in Texas now visiting her family.
Little House on the Prairie Star Has Two Sons
Gilbert, who is 57, has two sons. She had Dakota with her first husband, Bo Brinkman. She has son Michael Boxleitner with ex-husband, Bruce Boxleitner. It proved to be a marriage of 1980s-era TV superstars. Gilbert was from Little House on the Prairie fame. Americans loved Boxleitner in the Scarecrow and Mrs. King. Gilbert developed a crush on him while she was on Little House on the Prairie. That’s when Boxleitner starred in How the West Was Won.
Gilbert’s third (and current) husband is Timothy Busfield. And his TV resume is comparable to Gilbert’s with her Little House in the Prairie. Busfield starred in the 1980s-era drama Thirty Something. He also was in Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner.
Gilbert brought up her family on Father’s Day in an Instagram tribute. She even included Little House on the Prairie star, Michael Landon. She always said he served as a surrogate father to her when they were together on the show. Landon died in 1991.
Now, back to Gilbert and her sweet new granddaughter. Her followers loved the photo.
“She is adorable. So happy for you and your family,” one fan wrote. Another said “Congratulations…she’s precious.”
And another summed up what so many Little House on the Prairie fans felt when they saw the photo of Ripley Lou.
“Growing up, I loved watching you on Little House on the Prairie. You were one of my favorites! Can’t believe you are a grandma now. A young beautiful grandma. I live here in Austin and it would be so cool to run into you. Stay cool in this Texas heat and enjoy your time with family.”
