‘Little House on the Prairie’ Star Alison Arngrim Revealed the Music She Grew Up with on Set

In 2018, Little House on the Prairie star Alison Arngrim discussed what kind of music she grew up listening to while on set of the classic television show.

Arngrim spoke with The College Crowd Digs Me blog about her time as Nellie Oleson on the show from 1974 to 1981. The pair covered numerous topics during the interview. They included some of the interviewers’ favorite scenes and episodes, and the two also talked about the other cast members. One of the more interesting parts of their discussion revolved around the music she grew up listening to onset.

Since the show began in the mid-70s, there was plenty of iconic bands to choose from. The Little House on the Prairie star’s playlist doesn’t disappoint either. She listened to classic rockers like David Bowie, Rod Stewart, The Rolling Stones, and even some early punk bands like The Clash and Sex Pistols.

“I’m definitely a classic rock type person,” Arngrim revealed in the interview. “I’m 56 years old.  So I grew up on David Bowie and Rod Stewart. The Rolling Stones and all that. And the glam rock era. And then as a teenager, I very much liked punk. I was into the Sex Pistols and The Clash.  I went to see The Clash and The Jam and Sham 69 and Wreckless Eric and all the Stiff Records people and all the British bands.”

“And I was also very much into Elvis Costello and all of the new wave and punk stuff,” she added. “I really enjoyed that stuff. And, oh God, The Dead Boys and The Zippers and The Plugs and all the L.A. punk bands of the seventies.”

‘Little House on the Prairie’ Actress Shares How Intense Michael Landon Could Be on Set

During another interview with the Little House on the Prairie actress, Alison Arngrim opened up about her Hollywood legend co-star Michael Landon. She also shared details about how intense he could be on set as a fellow actor, and especially as a director.

She joined Pop Goes the Culture to discuss her acting career. Yet her most famous role as Nellie Oleson wasn’t always a joy ride when working with Landon. The star’s no-nonsense demeanor onset might have helped create magic on-screen. But it wasn’t always the best working relationship for his co-stars.

As an example, Arngrim’s character Nellie gets pranked in one hilarious Little House on the Prairie scene. Laura Ingalls takes revenge on Nellie by adding tons of cayenne pepper to her food. Therefore Arngrim had to chug a whole glass of water for the scene, and that’s where things got a bit out of hand.

“He did almost drown me… So I start chugging water, and I just couldn’t quite get it all down. And Michael says, ‘No, no, don’t cut. Fill her glass back up. Start again, keep rolling… You have to chug the whole thing. It’s too good, it’s too funny,’” Angrim says of shooting the scene. “And I’m like I can’t, and he goes, ‘Yes, you can.’ I start to chug it, and as I’m chugging it, my eyeballs are coming out of my head.”

“Water is coming out of my nose,” the Little House on the Prairie star adds. “I thought I was going to drown. I went every color in the rainbow, and it was brilliant. He was right, it was the most hysterical piece of film ever. But yea, he was a very bizarre person, and would drown you for a good shot actually.”
