Maren Morris had an enthusiastic moment at the 2020 CMA Awards when she learned that Eric Church had won Entertainer of the Year.
Morris shared the moment in a tweet on Friday.

“A funny CMA moment (excuse my profanity),” Morris posted. “I was doing press when they announced EOTY so I didn’t know who won until I saw @ericchurch come to the press carpet with an award. I asked ‘Wait. Did you just win Entertainer?’ He said with a sly grin, ‘Yep.’ I said ‘F–king. Finally.’”
Church has been nominated for the award before, but this was his first win. Also nominated were Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.
Church on Music
“If there was ever a year not to win this award,” Church said in his acceptance speech. He added that this year has mostly been “about loss — loss of life, loss of freedom, loss of kids being in school.” But, he concluded, “It’s gonna be music that brings us out of this. That is the one thing that is gonna save the entire world.”
Church added, “Politicians are about division. Music is about unity.”
Morris had a pretty good night herself. She won Female Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
The awards show was not without problems. Lee Brice and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line both tested positive for coronavirus before the show and had to cancel. At the last minute, Lady A pulled out due to a coronavirus case among one of their family members. Also, Rascal Flatts had to cancel after a band member came down with the coronavirus.
The CMA released a statement saying that although they were disappointed, “it does reassure us that our protocols are working. Our process enabled us to manage each situation immediately and before either artist ever entered our set. Most importantly, it prevented anyone else from being exposed.”
