Like many actors before him, Mark Wahlberg is putting on some serious pounds for his latest film. But don’t worry, his wife says “it looks just as hot in person, baby!”

Ready to see Mark Wahlberg as a boxer turned priest? It’s the focus of his latest film, which the actor is currently working on. And if his latest social media updates are to go by (which they are), he’s putting on some weight for the role. Not a few pounds, mind you, but 20 to star with – and another 20 promised.

On Saturday, Wahlberg posted a work out with a friend, who appears to have lost as much weight as Wahlberg plans to gain.

“Kenny’s down 50 and I’m up about 20. Inspired to be better! I’m going up another 20. Yes, it’s for a role,” Wahlberg totes via Instagram. Within, we see Marky Mark lift his shirt to show glorious abs, only to turn to the side and reveal his full stomach. Classic bait & switch!

Mark Wahlberg’s supermodel wife, however, seems to love the change. Today, the actor posts another update – this time through a before & after photo.

“From this 3 weeks ago, to this, now. Thanks to [Chef Lawrence Duran] cooking,” he writes Monday.

“And it looks just as hot in person baby,” Wahlberg’s wife, Rhea (Durham) Wahlberg, replied to the photo.

Fellow celeb & friend Mario Lopez is digging it, too, commenting “Yo. You wear mad chubby well homie!”

See Mark Wahlberg’s Insane Transformation:

According to THR, Mark Wahlberg has been “trying to mount a biopic on boxer-turned-priest Father Stuart Long for at least six years,” and it is this project that has led to the actor’s boxer-centric before & after post.

To make the film happen, Wahlberg has been able to bring Mel Gibson and writer-director Rosalind Ross, Gibson’s partner, on board for the biopic. The title? Father Stu.

THR says Ross has already written the script. She will also make her feature directorial debut, with Wahlberg starring as the titular Father. Mel Gibson will once again play Wahlberg’s father, after doing so in 2017 Daddy’s Home 2.

Production is now underway for the film, too, hence Mark Wahlberg’s insane transformation(s). It feels fitting, though, as the actor will portray a man who went through hell and back before his death in 2014.

“Long was an angry young man, alienating both students and priests at the Catholic college he attended, turning to boxing as a release,” says THR of Wahlberg’s real-life influence. “A hoped-for career didn’t take off thanks to a broken jaw so he moved to L.A. for a career in the movies… One evening he suffered a horrible motorcycle accident – he was hit by one car, then run over by another.”

Then, according to reports, Long had an “out of body experience” while in the hospital, rediscovering his faith. It is then that he enlisted in Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon and became a priest.

Now if that’s not Oscar material, we don’t know what is. Best of luck, Mark Wahlberg!
