A new cast member has joined Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown. Deadline confirmed today (August 30th) that Kyle Chandler will star alongside Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner in the Paramount+ series.

Deadline made the announcement after Renner posted key art on his Instagram page. The art features Kyle Chandler in a Mayor of Kingstown promotion. Chandler will play Mitch McLusky, who is the brother of Jeremy Renner’s character. Mitch is the family fixer, both inside and outside of the prison.

Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky’s, a family of power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan. In the city, incarceration is the only thriving business. According to IMDb, the series will tackle “themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality.”

In a recent statement, executive producer Antoine Fuqua said, “The series offers a comprehensive look into the brutal prison system where sociopolitical issues run rampant. Prisons are a forgotten world to most of the population,” she continued. “And yet [they] represent a microcosm of society as a whole.”

Jeremy Renner said, “Taylor [Sheridan] has brought to life a layered and poignant universe that is not only incredibly intriguing but also more relevant than ever.”

Kyle Chandler is famous for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Coach Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights. He will also star in the Netflix original movie Slumberland, which premieres in 2022.

Chandler will also join Hamish Allen-Headley, Hugh Dillon, Tobi Bamtefa, Pha’rez Lass, Derek Webster, Emma Laird, Derek Webster, and Dianne Wiest and the show. Wiest is a two-time Oscar winner. She grabbed her first award in 1986 for her supporting role in Hannah and Her Sisters and her second in 1994 for Bullets over Broadway.
