While the brand new Paramount+ series The Mayor of Kingstown is just three episodes into its premiere season, the hit drama certainly hasn’t pulled any punches.

A perfect example of this is the fate which one careless criminal met in Kingstown’s most recent episode. This storyline is so intense, in fact, that it highlights the drama’s ability to put viewers through a rollercoaster of emotions each week.

When it comes to his role as the Mayor of Kingstown, Jeremy Renner’s Mike McLusky operates in a world where the line between the “good” guys and the “bad” guys very often blurs into almost nothing.

Sometimes, this means those who should be serving on the “right” side of the law make some questionably sinister decisions. Other times, this means that the “bad” guys sometimes serve as tools to seek justice. This usually comes in some untraditional, albeit violent, ways.

And, It was a form of justice served by the latter that highlights Kingstown’s underbelly during last night’s brand-new episode. This came after a man named Kenny killed his ex-wife and five-year-old son in a devastating explosion.

‘The Mayor of Kingstown’ Deals With A Brutal Crime

Initially outraged by the crime, Mike McLusky sets out to find justice against the killer. However, McLusky soon learns that it was a careless act on Kenny’s part that led to the gruesome deaths.

The tragic and heartbreaking deaths have bothered so many more people within Kingstown’s law enforcement, however. In fact, people within Kingstown’s prison system and the gang communities are also seeking their own form of justice against Kenny.

This, of course, means Kenny is very, very unlikely to find any safety anywhere.

Once Kenny finally turns himself in after meeting with the Mayor of Kingstown, Mike McLusky tries to get the man into protective custody. However, these efforts fail, and Kenny has absolutely no protection when he enters the prison.

Angered by his actions, the entire Kingstown police force has essentially agreed to look the other way should Kenny be attacked in prison. As do the guards within the institution.

As soon as Kenny enters the prison, the inmates are given ample opportunity to ambush Kenny. This is exactly what happens moments after Kenny arrives in prison – while the guards look the other way.

At the end of the episode, viewers see Kenny’s lifeless body lying on the ground. And it soon becomes clear that Kenny has not survived the brutal attacks.

This, of course, leads viewers to ponder the dilemma the series often faces. This dilemma? Can one truly find justice through criminal means?
