Meghan McCain Slams Jeff Bezos’ Space Flight Amid Exit from ‘The View’

Meghan McCain, who is in her last days as a co-host on The View, isn’t a fan of Jeff Bezos and “space tourism.”

In other words, she said no to billionaires self-funding their rocket ship adventures.

Meghan McCain, via Twitter, said of Bezos:

“I know this space tourism is really exciting for some but I just keep thinking about how Jeff Bezos employees have to pee in water bottles because they don’t get bathroom breaks and where all this money could have gone for 7 minutes of an ego stroke.

Meghan McCain Was Among Many Critics of Bezos’ Space Trip

So count Meghan McCain as someone who wasn’t impressed with Jeff Bezos’ “best day ever.” The creator of Amazon is the world’s richest man. He and three passengers lifted off in the New Shepard rocket from a remote part of West Texas near the state’s border with New Mexico. Bezos took three passengers with him — brother Mark, Wally Funk and Oliver Daemen.

Funk, who is 82, became the oldest person ever to travel in space. She was among 13 women pilots to do astronaut testing back in the early 1960s. Daemen, at 18, became the youngest person ever to go into space.

The rocket also carried some cool mementos — a pair of Amelia Earhart’s goggles and a piece of material from the Wright Flyer.

The flight lasted only 11 minutes, but allowed for everyone to experience four minutes of weightlessness.

“My expectations were high and they were dramatically exceeded,” Bezos said in a post-flight press conference.

Meghan McCain, like numerous other critics, took issue with the way Bezos runs Amazon, a company that changed the way the world shops. Workers at Amazon don’t belong to unions. At times, documented working conditions aren’t great. The article McCain tweeted was about how some Amazon workers don’t have enough time to take a bathroom break, forcing them to urinate in bottles.

Amazon Admitted Drivers Sometimes Couldn’t Take Bathroom Breaks

According to the article Meghan McCain referenced, Amazon initially denied that their workers needed to use bottles for their bathroom breaks. They later modified their statement, saying sometimes their drivers were forced to do so when the Covid pandemic forced the closure so many public bathrooms.

McCain announced earlier this month that she was leaving The View after four seasons. Her final show is the last one in July. She’s the daughter of the late John McCain, who was a U.S. Senator from Arizona and the 2008 Republican nominee for president.

The View is based in New York, but McCain spent the pandemic in Washington, D.C. with her husband and daughter, who was born last September. The View still is doing shows in its studio. However, it’s likely the hosts soon will be required to come on set to film the talk show. McCain said she didn’t want to move back to New York.

Plus, it was clear that McCain wasn’t getting along with her fellow co-hosts. Page Six reported that McCain’s departure coincided with a change on the executive level at ABC. Unidentified sources said that hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro complained about McCain with network executives.
