On Monday, a judge finalized Melinda and Bill Gates’ very public divorce, according to court documents obtained by Fox Business.
As of August 2, the power couple’s 27-year marriage has officially come to an end. Today, a judge signed off on the Gates’ divorce, which brings an end to the divorce proceedings that began back in May.
“This marriage is irretrievably broken,” their filing reads, according to a Fox Business report. The divorce ruling also states that both parties “should be ordered to comply with the terms of the separation contract.”
Melinda Gates, 56, filed the initial papers with the intent of divorcing her husband Bill Gates, 65, in May. The original filing mirrored today’s documents. The initial petition also stated that the couple’s marriage is “irretrievably broken.”
Additionally, the original filing shared that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement. Further, it did reveal that they planned on following a pre-written separation agreement to divide their assets. While the couple’s “separation contract” isn’t fully explained, it does decide what assets will go to each party.
Today’s finalized divorce filing also states that neither Bill Gates or his now ex-wife will receive spousal support. In addition, Melinda will keep Gates as her last name following the divorce. The filings didn’t include child support or custody agreements since their children are all adults.
