Dirty Jobs” star Mike Rowe has paid his labor dues. No one can deny his willingness to get down in the mud with the folks who make this country run. That needed saying because on his new show, “How America Works,” Rowe himself doesn’t get his hands dirty. Instead, he lends his iconic voice to the program by narrating as the Fox Business Network series explores the essential work done by millions across the country.

Mike Rowe’s new show premiered on September 20. The first episode took a close look at the lumber industry. It followed a group of Alaskan lumberjacks as they worked to fill a demanding order of wood. That’s the kind of thing one can expect from the show. According to IMDb, the upcoming episode will dive into the complex world of oil.

During a recent interview with USA Today, Mike Rowe explained the purpose of the new show.

“We sent the cameras in. Our hope is to give America an honest look at really what it’s like maintaining the Hoover Dam turbines or running the most technically adapted fish boat in the world. It’s a bit like ‘Dirty Jobs,’ but without the host,” said Rowe.

But don’t make the mistake of thinking Rowe got tired of all the hard work. He’s still getting his hands dirty. Sometimes, though, a guy like Mike Rowe can contribute in other ways.

“I don’t want to create the impression that I got lazy. We’re telling the same kinds of stories, celebrating the same kinds of jobs and hopefully making a similarly persuasive case for why these jobs are truly essential.”

‘Dirty Jobs’ is BACK, Mike Rowe Fans

If someone tells you they didn’t enjoy watching Mike Rowe take on the duties of folks working the most “undesirable” jobs in America from 2003 to 2012, they’re probably lying. The hit Discovery channel show was eye-opening but also highly entertaining. Most of the latter was courtesy of Rowe as the show’s host.

Now, almost a decade removed from the last episode, Discovery is bringing the series back. See? Mike Rowe didn’t get lazy. He’s just busy with a bunch working a bunch of other jobs. The legendary host shared his reaction to the news with a statement Discovery released in the spring.

“Every now and then, the headlines catch up to a TV show and make it relevant in ways that no one imagined. With essential work in the news, it’s impossible not to think of ‘Dirty Jobs,’ and for the last year, people have asked me every day if the show would make a comeback. Today, I’m happy to say the answer is yes. In other words, just when I thought I was out, they sucked me back in!” said Rowe.
