Mike Rowe tried to be funny about a “sex symbol” comparison with him and the late “Golden Girls” actress Bea Arthur.

In a 2014 Baltimore Sun article, Rowe had a little fun with his newspaper interviewer. Over the years, it’s been no secret that female fans have taken a liking to the “Dirty Jobs” star.

As a result of all the publicity, Mike Rowe said one day he can be the subject of a midwestern church service sermon and, on the same day, get lampooned as online magazine D-Listed’s Hot Slut of the Week.

The conversation segued into the host’s thoughts of being a sex symbol. Rowe deadpanned, “Wait, I lost to Bea Arthur.”

And maybe Rowe could have back then. It could have been some either/or online contest where website users pick the winner between two choices.

Strangely, D-Listed reported that characters from “The Golden Girls” inspired a line of hot sauces years later. Hey, somebody had to license the images to use the women on their hot sauce bottles.

Mike Rowe’s “Dirty Jobs” New Season Starts in 2022

According to Comicbook.com, Rowe’s trademark series comes back to The Discovery Channel on Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. Eastern.

It’s been 10 years, but Rowe is returning to his roots in the season premiere. Maybe it has something to do with all the “open” jobs out there amid the recent economic picture. But Rowe’s back to “shed light on careers that many people take for granted.”

Maybe he’s heading straight into the infrastructure world, too. The show’s recent press release talks about Mike Rowe working with rod busters who work to “twist, mold, and fabricate” the ironwork in our nation’s roads and bridges.

Rowe goes outside Tampa, Fla. to meet with these workers amid the hot, stressful working conditions with the mission to complete a bridge in one day.

Deadpool and Bea Arthur Connection

Now, if you’re a fan of the Marvel character Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, you’ll understand my next point.

Deadpool loves Bea Arthur. Like, as in Arthur is a sex symbol. Sorry, Mike Rowe. And the movie came out two years after Rowe’s comment, so maybe he planted a seed in somebody’s head.

In the comic books, Deadpool is Arthur’s self-proclaimed “number one fan.” The anti-hero likes to watch “Golden Girls” episodes. In her honor, the comic book writers even named the spaceship for the Deadpool Corps “The Bea Arthur.” So, it seemed natural to get Arthur’s likeness in the film, somehow.

Also, the online site Mental Floss found out it cost the “Deadpool” producers a lot of money to show Arthur in the movie. With a tight budget, Reynolds had to wear his movie producer hat and dole out $10,000 to use the picture for the film. Reportedly, that money went to Arthur’s estate, and the money went to the actress’s chosen charity.
