Miley Cyrus just spilled the beans on a story from her childhood that could have easily turned into a tragedy. The singer and actress took a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, where she discussed the specifics of the incident.
The mishap, brought on by father Billy Ray Cyrus, happened when she was just 2 years old. It’s a story that die-hard Miley Cyrus fans may know a bit about, but it’s not a well-known fact.
“It was bad. Everyone’s asked me about that for years,” Cyrus shared. She explained further: “He had me in a baby backpack and I was on a dirt bike with my dad.”
“He was riding, and a tree had fallen, and he ducked, and I didn’t, and I hit my head on the tree.” The result was a serious, traumatic head injury that Cyrus has dealt with much of her life.
It appears Miley has come to terms with that injury as an adult. She jokingly reminded listeners that her father “can’t go to jail” since the accident had been so long ago.
Miley’s struggles with recreational drugs
Later, during a chat about the trials of being in show business at a young age, Cyrus and Rogan then discussed the singer’s past use of recreational drugs. Cyrus admitted to having difficulties chasing highs in the past. She described how being in front of thousands of people cheering for her on stage made for an incredibly intense euphoria. It was difficult to match this feeling with drugs, so she took more and more.
Rogan suggested Cyrus’s head injury could be at least partly responsible for her struggles.
“I think it also might have to do with your head injury,” he suggested. “There’s a real big connection between people with traumatic brain injuries and the need for either alcohol or cocaine or something to perturb your natural state of consciousness. Cyrus agreed, saying her brain gets a little “sleepy” sometimes when it comes to making potentially bad decisions.
Cyrus opened up about a range of topics during the same interview, including her relationship with Dolly Parton. She also outlined her “very public” divorce from ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. She noted that at the end of the day she isn’t looking for a relationship at present just yet.
“I don’t need a man or a woman that’s gonna take care of me,” she said. “I can take care of me.” It’s clear that Cyrus has herself covered.
I need them to be able to take care of them.”
