Mister Rogers was so much more than just a children’s television host. He was an integral part of millions of childhoods. Fred Rogers taught generations of kids about kindness and acceptance among other things. Few television personalities have done more for their audiences. Even today, his message influences young people around the world. So, it is fitting that we continue to celebrate his birthday.
Saturday, March 20th would have been Rogers’ 93rd birthday. So, Saturday morning, Tom Bergeron is hosting a virtual birthday bash for America’s Favorite Neighbor. In the spirit of the late Fred Rogers, we’re all invited.
Happy Birthday Mister Rogers will feature several celebrity guests. The event will stream live on YouTube and Facebook as well as the official Thank You, Mister Rogers website. The shindig kicks off at 10 am central.
What to Expect from Happy Birthday Mister Rogers
The birthday celebration is an extension of the tribute album Thank You, Mister Rogers. Dennis Scott, a two-time Grammy and Emmy-winning producer is the mastermind behind both projects. About the event, Scott said, “I wanted to give folks a chance to tell their stories and express their gratitude to Fred on what would have been his 93rd birthday.”
Happy Birthday Mister Rogers will be a full-fledged fan tribute to the man who touched so many lives. It will include fan-submitted stories about the good things that Fred did over the years. At the same time, there will be plenty of interviews with folks who knew or worked with him. Also, you can expect to learn more about America’s Favorite Neighbor because the celebration will feature fun facts about him. The flyer for the event also promises shout-outs from the Neighborhood. So, that could mean that some of your favorite characters from the iconic television show will be making an appearance.
If that’s not enough to get you excited, the event will also include appearances from artists who worked on the Thank You, Mister Rogers album. Those celebrity guests will include country stars Lee Greenwood and Kellie Pickler as well as Jim Brickman, Vanessa Williams, The Cowsills, Jaci Velasquez, Jon Secada, Marilyn McCoo, Mickey Dolenz, and Sandi Patty among others. Tom Bergeron of Dancing With the Stars and America’s Funniest Home Videos will host the event.
Mister Rogers won’t be the only honoree at the celebration. The whole event is also dedicated to the woman who knew Fred Rogers best, his late wife Joanne Rogers. She passed away back in January, so it is fitting to honor her as well. As the saying goes, behind every great man is a great woman. Not many men were greater than Fred Rogers. So, his late wife must have been spectacular as well.
So, mark your calendar and set your alarm for Saturday morning. Gather the family and celebrate Mister Rogers.
