‘Monarch’ Star Susan Sarandon Reveals She Was Told Her Acting Career Would Be Done By the Age of 40

During a 2018 interview with Independent, Monarch star Susan Sarandon revealed that someone once told her that her acting career would be over by the time she turned 40. “I was told you were done by the time you’re 40. And you definitely shouldn’t talk about having children. Because that made you less sexy.”

Despite that advice, the Monarch star continued working and still has a successful career. She also said that there are tons of other women who are working around her age. “The main reason for that is female producers and female writers and directors. And people who are willing to try and get money for a female-driven story where all the characters are not 22.”

But then Monarch castmate goes on to say there aren’t many stories of older men and women. Although there are some stories about older men, they always seem to have 30-year-old girlfriends. She then stated it is really important to tell women’s stories and show women that are protagonists in their own lives. “It’s not doing anybody a favor. It’s really just reflecting this amazing world we live in and the stories and heroes that exist. And making it more reflective of what’s out there.”

The Monarch cast member has decades of acting experience. She was in various TV series throughout the years, including Ray Donovan, Neo Yokio, Dark Air with Terry Carnation, Skylanders Academy, and Rescue Me. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Stockholm International Film Festival, was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2010.
