Fox’s new show, Monarch, just announced a new cast member. Monarch follows a country music dynasty. A family member of one of the stars has officially signed on to the upcoming series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eva Amurri, daughter of Susan Sarandon, will join her mother and the rest of the Monarch cast.

Amurri will play a young version of her mother’s character, country music sensation Dottie Cantrell. Dottie is reportedly “ruthlessly ambitious” as well as incredibly talented. This will be Amurri’s first acting gig in a while, and she’s joining the series as a regular.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Amurri left acting in 2015 to pursue her lifestyle brand, Happily Eva After. Her last role was also one alongside her mother in the film aptly titled Mothers and Daughters in 2016. She’s been on shows such as Undatable, The Mindy Project, and Californication.

Amurri Joins an Impressive Cast on ‘Monarch’

Aside from the draw of Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri, the rest of the cast is incredibly impressive. Trace Adkins, Anna Freil, and Beth Ditto all star.

Monarch follows a country music dynasty controlled by Dottie and Albie Roman (Trace Adkins). Friel and Ditto play the daughters of the two. The daughters both have major roles to play in the industry. The whole family feels determined to keep their legacy alive and well. However, their careers are reportedly “built on a lie.”

It’s especially ironic since fans praise the family for their honesty. Recently, however, some cracks have formed in their reputation. One of the daughters, Nicky Roman, is trying to continue on the family legacy while receiving some pushback.

Trace Adkins was recently added to the cast, and it came as a major excitement to country music fans. Adkins is a country music star himself, so having him play one on TV will add a sort of layer of authenticity.

The Series is Set for a Mid-Season Release

The series will have plenty of music as well with Adam Anders serving as an executive music producer on the new show. The show will feature both original songs and covers. Adkins is likely to have a good part in those songs.

This will also be the first live-action series completely owned by the network to air since Disney bought 20th Television. Melissa London Hilfers will write and executive produces. There’ll also be a writer’s room behind the episodes as a part of Fox’s traditional script-to-series model.

If you are excited to watch Monarch, it’ll premiere relatively soon. The show will premiere on Fox on January 30th, 2022. It’s coming on as a mid-series replacement after being essentially sat on by the network for the past couple of years. The first season will be 12 episodes long.
