Famous young bootlegger Lance Waldroup has died. The 30-year-old won over the hearts of millions on Moonshiners, the channel’s Appalachia-based reality show.

Family, friends, and fans of Lance Waldroup are in shock and mourning the loss of Moonshiners’ warm-hearted star. According to Lance’s father, Jeff Waldroup, Lance passed February 25 in his North Carolina home. Jeff starred alongside his son in the beloved Discovery show. So far, he has not given a cause of death for his son.

Upon reaching out, Discovery tells TMZ of Waldroup’s passing that “Lance will be remembered as an adventurous distiller who was always looking to take his flavorful recipes of moonshine to new heights.”

Featured in the early seasons of the show, Lance was a bootlegger in his home state of North Carolina alongside his father. Even though he was of less experience than his fellow shiners, he never let it slow him down. Lance was a protege to his father, Jeff, in many ways, and would seek out his guidance whenever he felt it necessary.

Remembering ‘Moonshiners’ Lance Waldroup

In addition to moonshine, Lance enjoyed distilling scotch and absinthe, the latter of which you can see him working on below.

Tragically, Lance is the third child the Waldroups have lost young. Speaking to TMZ, the family “says Lance had survivor’s guilt because his sister died when she was 11, and his brother died when he was 20.”

Despite such horrific loss, Lance was a true success story. In addition to starring on Discovery’s Moonshiners, the young bootlegger was a recovering drug addict, his family cites, who had turned his life around after sending himself to rehab.

To raise money for a memorial fund, the Waldroups have begun a GoFundMe. Lance was just 30-years-old.

Relive one of the young star’s best moments as he makes his first run of absinthe below. All our best to fellow Moonshiners during this tragic loss, and to family, friends, and fans. Rest in Peace, Lance Waldroup.

Old partners, new partners, corn liquor, flavored liquor… the options are endless. Watch Lance make his first run of absinthe while Mark works the old school moonshine run.
