NBC News journalist Natalie Morales is leaving the network and reports have her going to CBS and joining “The Talk” as a host.
According to an article from Toofab, Morales informed her NBC News co-workers in an internal memo about her departure on Friday. She did not mention there about where she would land after leaving NBC at all.
If “The Talk” on CBS is where she lands, then NBC reporter Morales will step into a fluid situation.
NBC News Anchor Might Head To CBS Talk Show, Fill Opening Made By Departures
Hosts Sharon Osbourne, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Elaine Welteroth have left the show. Jerry O’Connell and Akbar Gbajabiamila filled those spots and will be on for Season 12 with cohosts Sheryl Underwood and Amanda Kloots.
“I struggle to find the right words and there are way too many people I need to thank for a wonderful career at NBC News,” Morales wrote in her memo. “I think back to my early days cutting my teeth at WVIT in Hartford, CT then taking the huge and — at the time — petrifying leap to MSNBC and alas — scoring the golden tickets to the TODAY show and ‘Dateline.'”
Her memo concluded, “It’s very hard to say goodbye… and we all know in this business it’s never goodbye but see you later.
Morales Started TV Career Working At WVIT, Then Moving To MSNBC For Gig
“I’m eternally grateful for the support and deep friendships that will remain no matter where our paths lead,” Morales wrote. “I have so much to be thankful for and for every one of you who helped me get here… muchísimas gracias mis amigos.”
Her career started at NBC affiliate WVIT. She would go to MSNBC, then, in 2006, “TODAY” as a correspondent. Morales would replace Ann Curry. In 2016, she would become the news and entertainment show’s West Coast anchor.
Morales also hosted “Access Hollywood” from 2016-19, replacing Billy Bush. She’s also a contributor to “Dateline” and plans to stay in that role through this year.
No word has been given about when she will finish working her schedule on “TODAY.”
Her time on “TODAY” puts Morales on a list of women anchors and newspeople that goes all the way back to Florence Henderson. Yes, before she played Carol Brady on “The Brady Bunch,” Henderson was a weather person and interviewer on the show.
Others in that lineage include Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Jane Pauley, and Deborah Norville. “TODAY” has been a part of the NBC schedule for eight decades.
