In September 2019, actress Cote de Pablo took part in an interview to discuss her return to the popular CBS drama, “NCIS.”
During this interview, a young fan had the opportunity to ask the Ziva David actress what words of wisdom she has to share with young actors.
“So, I know you mentioned you have a background in theatre and musical theatre in addition to TV and film. And, I was just wondering what advice you have for young, aspiring performers. Especially when it comes to dealing with failure and rejection in that field?” the fan asked the “NCIS” star.
“Oh, that’s a really great question,” de Pablo began her response. She then recalled an encounter she once had with an individual who also had dreams of becoming an actor. However, this person, according to de Pablo wanted to be an actor for the wrong reasons.
“I remember once there was somebody who came up to me and they were very serious,” the “NCIS” actress also shared. “They said, ‘I want to be an actor and I want to be a performer.’ And I said, ‘Well, why.” And they said, ‘Because I want to be rich and famous.'”
This response wasn’t really what the “NCIS” actress was hoping to hear. Having such a focus is not the right path to take, according to Cote de Pablo.
“And I remember, I thought, ‘Oh it was a wrong, wrong answer,’ you know,” she also said. “Because chances are if that’s the reason you’re doing it, don’t do it. Because chances are it won’t happen, you know. The chances of people making it are slim.”
‘NCIS’ Actress Cote de Pablo Encouraged People to Do What They Love
While most people who choose to be actors will never become rich or famous, they still can have successful careers. To do so, according to this “NCIS” star, they need to focus on more than just being rich and famous.
“However, the chances of you pursuing the thing that you love to do is infinite,” Cote de Pablo shared. “Because what you love to do you have infinite possibilities for chasing after that.”
Going after what you love is much easier to attain than other things those who pursue acting careers often go after.
“But, if you’re chasing after fame and fortune – that’s a tough one to chase after,” de Pablo also said.
In addition to offering advice about the general goals someone pursuing an acting degree should focus on, the actress also had other words of wisdom to share. Turns out, this advice applies to so many things in life.
“Hone in on your talents. Never give up on trying to be better,” Cote de Pablo said. “Take classes and, you know, stay very curious. That’s what I always say.”
