‘NCIS’ Star Brian Dietzen Made a Documentary About Wounded Warriors’ Softball Team Coaching Disabled Kids

NCIS star Brian Dietzen made a documentary about a Wounded Warriors Softball team coaching disabled children. The actor, who has played Dr. Jimmy Palmer on the show since its early years, was thrilled when the documentary premiered in the summer of 2019. He discussed the doc in a September 2019 interview.

The documentary, called Lightning vs Thunder, is a passion project made by NCIS actor Brian Dietzen and a couple of his friends.

“Over the summer we premiered a documentary we’ve been working on with a few of my friends at AFI. It’s a short documentary called Lightning vs. Thunder. It’s about a camp for children with amputations and these leg deficient kids learn how to use their prosthesis by playing softball,” he described to Starry Mag.

“The counselors at the camp are members of the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team. So, it’s a really great story about some of our veterans really helping out kids and our kids in turn building confidence and getting to meet people just like them. It was an inspiring project I’m really glad we got to premiere it,” he finished.

The NCIS actor also tweeted about the documentary following its release. He was particularly excited about the element of togetherness displayed in the doc.

The project, a beautiful project of people with similar struggles helping each other overcome, is one of the many Dietzen has worked on when not filming NCIS. The actor has spoken out for multiple causes in the past. He’s also voiced his support for those who have faced tragedy.

Recently, Dietzen sent his condolences to Halyna Hutchins’ family. Hutchins was a cinematographer who tragically died in a work place accident on the set of Rust. Additionally, Dietzen noted the importance of safety on set.

As far as his professional life goes, he’s very busy with NCIS as it undergoes its 19th season. The season features the departure of its long time star.

Dietzen Has a Big Role on ‘NCIS’ This Year

While in 2019, Jimmy Palmer was still a major part of NCIS, in 2021, it’s all remaining hands on deck following the departure of Special Agent Gibbs Actor Mark Harmon. The show said goodbye to Mark Harmon after he starred on it for almost two decades in a touching episode.

Now, actors like Brian Dietzen and McGee actor Sean Murray are integral to the show. The two actors are amongst the only remaining people on the cast to have been on NCIS since the early days. The show has also added two actors to the cast as regulars. Therefore, fans are relying on Dietzen and Murray for familiarity as the show undergoes a major transition.

If you want to see Brian Dietzen on NCIS, you can tune in to CBS on Monday nights at 9/8 Central.
