CBS hit series NCIS closed out their 19th season with an emotional finale. Fans of the show couldn’t get enough of one character’s three-dimensional hologram of herself.

NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is a popular action drama. It centers around the NCIS team and how they work together in high-stress situations. Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs leads the unit consisting of NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee, NCIS Special Agent Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop, NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres, and NCIS Special Agent Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane. Together, they face crimes from murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines with a Navy and Marine Corps twist.

The NCIS fall finale aired on Monday.

Prior to the season finale, Torres inherited a new (used) car. Parker opened up about his childhood, Palmer and Knight finally bonded, and Kasie contemplated purchasing a firearm for self-defense. The episode culminated with the team successfully solving a complex crime in which a man died from a rare pistol purchased at a gun expo.

In the most recent episode, a financial advisor is dead at a naval station which leads the team down a winding road of interviews with the victim’s three-dimensional hologram of herself created before her death.

NCIS Season 19, Episode 9 Recap

The episode opens with two officers discovering the body of Sandra Holdren (Stepfanie Kramer). Torres and Knight went to her house to notify Holdren’s next of kin. Upon meeting her assistant, the Torres and Knight were introduced to Sandra Holdren’s hologram.

Surprisingly, the hologram answered many of the team’s questions, ultimately assisting in the murder investigation. Sandra created the hologram in order to leave something behind for her estranged daughter to remember her by. Sandra was dying.

Sandra’s daughter, Ruby Holdren (Holly Curran), didn’t express any emotion at her mother’s death. Apparently, Sandra stole money from her clients through her finance work. She avoided jail time leaving behind many victims that could have motives.

Out of a stacked line-up, it turns out the murderer was none other than Sandra’s lawyer. Her lawyer confessed to being the murderer as well as stealing money from Sandra’s clients which he ultimately pinned on her son, Ben.

In a sad turn of events, Sandra ended up taking the blame because she thought Ben was behind it. However, she continued to look into it years after Ben took his own life.

Eventually, Sandra’s daughter Ruby was able to forgive her mom once she learned the truth.

Sandra’s hologram was essential in solving the case. Knight took the lead in questioning the hologram for most of the episode. The episode ended with Knight reconnecting with her mom after she became emotional in speaking with Sandra’s hologram.

The long-running series will take a four-week break and will return the first week of January 2022.
