‘NCIS’ Fans Demand Mark Harmon’s Gibbs Return After Seeing Show’s Recent Post

by Kati Kuuseoks

Leroy Jethro Gibbs– that name still stings for fans of Mark Harmon’s character in the long-running CBS hit, “NCIS.” The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is just not the same when it’s headed by Gary Cole’s Alden Parker, who stepped into Gibbs’ role. The transition officially launched with Season 19 Episode 6 and the TV ratings felt those winds of change, too. While one of the showrunners tries to squash the critics, they seem to be pretty outnumbered on this one.

And the pushback makes sense. Outsiders and fans worldwide grew accustomed to seeing Mark Harmon’s Gibbs as the top dog over the greater part of two decades with “NCIS.” That being said, fans seem to have caught the show in a major “foot in the mouth” moment with the caption of their latest Instagram post. Here’s why fans are demanding that Mark Harmon’s Gibbs return after the post caught some traction.

‘NCIS’ Fans Fire Back at the Show Saying ‘The Gang Is NOT All Here’ Without Mark Harmon’s Gibbs

Here’s the post from the official show account that rubbed some “NCIS” fans the wrong way:

As you can see, the caption enthusiastically claims “The gang’s all here!” It shows a team huddle with Sean Murray’s McGee, Katrina Law’s Knight, Wilmer Valderrama’s Torres, and the controversial Parker from Gary Cole. And of course, one familiar face is missing here (Gibbs). So, should fans chalk this up to a little miscommunication or is the whole thing rather tone-deaf?

@dewaldnaude101 captured the main sentiment in the comment section. They write: “No the gang is not all here. You are missing the leader that is Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Stop retconning Gibbs’ existence! BRING GIBBS BACK!”

@chloee_birdd also added two cents saying the following: “Who is that man in Gibbs chair?? He isn’t allowed to sit there.”

So, what are the odds of Mark Harmon’s return?

Showrunner Leaves Gibbs Return Open

Showrunner Steve Binder made the following statement regarding the possibility of Gibbs’ return:

“As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show,” he starts. “Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go. So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years… never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”

Gibbs’ return probably won’t come in the same capacity that fans grew to expect over 18 years, but it’s still pretty good news for fans. In other words, the showrunners might be able to appease the angry mobs and pitchforks after all…
