As fans of “NCIS” wait for season 19 of the longtime series to air during the fall TV season, they are using that time to instead speculate and discuss the popular crime drama.
One of the fan-favorite characters from seasons 11 to 18 is Emily Wickersham, who played Special Agent Eleanor Bishop. However, she announced a couple of months ago that she would not be returning to her role in the series for the next season.
A clear answer as to why was never truly shared. One fan on Reddit speculated that her pregnancy may have been why she decided to leave “NCIS.” The user wrote, “Answers a lot of questions about Emily Wickersham leaving NCIS…” and included a pregnancy announcement on Instagram that Wickersham shared.
Wickersham wrote on the post, “my mom taking a photo of a future mom with a baby boy on the way!”
The idea that she left the show due to her pregnancy is purely speculation. She left on what appears to be good terms and did not hint at any specific reasoning during her departure.
One of the top comments in this discussion included one fan writing, “I doubt her being pregnant had anything to do with her leaving the show. Much like Lauren Holly (Jenny Sheppard), I believe Emily left due to becoming bored with her role as Bishop.”
Other people claimed that it was a bit of a stretch, seeing as she could have still worked on the show while pregnant. However, pregnancy is something that may have had to be incorporated into the overall plot of the series.
“Maybe she wanted to not be so busy. Plus then they’d have to either work the pregnancy in for Bishop. Or write her out for the duration of the pregnancy,” one person wrote. There are ways to either incorporate or even hide pregnancies on TV.
Emily Wickersham ‘NCIS’ Departure
For example, Daniela Ruah over on the spin-off series “NCIS: Los Angeles” has been pregnant twice while on the show. On “NCIS,” Wickersham’s character was sent on a secret undercover mission. As it turns out, it was the last we will see of Wickersham too.
She shared the news on Instagram when she wrote, “This business is finicky and weird and consistency is a rarity. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a show where I got to show up and act and laugh and learn with wonderful people. A moment in time I surely won’t forget. Thank you CBS and NCIS for including me in a part of television history.”
She has never officially shared a reasoning for the departure or another project she’s going to be involved with. For the time being, her departure really remains a mystery.
