‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Director Announces Pilot, Episode 2 Filming Has Wrapped With Candid Pic of Cast

by Jonathan Howard

Fans of NCIS rejoice! Director Larry Teng posted a photo to Instagram to celebrate the filming of the Pilot and Episode 2 of the new NCIS: Hawai’i series. With the series going down into the Pacific Ocean there is no telling the storylines that could come out of the new location for one of TV’s best law enforcement dramas.

The crew has been down in Hawaii for quite some time. This summer filming began on the first two episodes as season one gets put together for release this Fall. Monday, September 20th is the announced premiere date for the new series and will be sure to bring plenty of waves to the Monday night television lineup.

Director Larry Teng has a long and successful resume. Teng directed 11 episodes of Hawaii Five-0 in the 2010 reboot of the series. He was also a director for seven episodes of Elementary and directed episodes for Quantico, SEAL Team, S.W.A.T., Runaways, and Nancy Drew. Teng signed an overall deal with CBS back in January. He will also be an Executive Producer for the first two episodes. Teng is a native of Queens, NY. With a long history of working in the genre, Teng has a lot to bring to the NCIS: Hawai’i series.

The new series was created by Christopher Silber who is the showrunner of the NCIS: New Orleans. The show will star Vanessa Lachey who is a former Miss Teen USA 1998. She has been a New York-based correspondent for Entertainment Tonight. Lachey also hosted TRL on MTV for those who remember the last golden age of that network. She also appeared in CSI: NY and is a host for Top Chef Junior.

NCIS: Hawai’i Stars and More

Other stars that will appear alongside Lachey include Yasmine AlBustami, Jason Antoon, Noah Mills, Tori Anderson, and others. The faces will likely be new to most viewers and will hopefully be a cast that fans can fall in love with. The basic premise of NCIS: Hawai’i is like any other NCIS series but will be based out of the Pearl Habor Field Office. The office is led by Special Agent Jane Tennant.

Lachey will be playing Tennant and is the first female agent in charge of the Pearl Harbor office. Al-Bustami is going to play Lucy, a junior field agent. The cast will also include a cyber intelligence specialist played by Jason Antoon. We have a second-in-command, Jesse Boon played by Noah Mills. Boon is a former Washington D.C. homicide detective with plenty of hiking knowledge around the islands. Tennant uses Boon as a confidant. The drama is going to be packed in and the cases should be unique and fun.

NCIS: Hawai’i series is going to be the fourth series in the franchise. This will be a unique series as it will not be introduced through a back-door of another series. This means that the Pearl Harbor office will have more autonomy and not so many call-backs to other series. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of crossover potential. CBS has another Hawaii-based drama, their reboot of Magnum P.I.

The series is being produced in the same facilities built for Hawaii Five-0. The filming took place on location on the North Shore of Oahu. Hopefully, the two opening episodes are able to captivate audiences. The Hawaiian vibes will be comforting come Fall.
