We wonder if NCIS: Hawai’i show creators really drop such minute clues into their trailers. Or is it more that potential fans of the show are magnifying every detail.

An NCIS: Hawai’i fan group analyzed the new 30-second trailer for the show, which premieres Sept. 20 and found all sorts of details leading them to surmise crossovers with at least two shows.

The speculation started when Vanessa Lachey, who stars as Jane Tennant, tweeted an exclusive trailer earlier this week.

She introduced it, writing “Jane Tennant reporting for duty! Here’s an exclusive look at the first NCIS: Hawai’i CBS trailer that will air tonight. Not gonna lie, I cried when I saw it, but happy tough kick ass tears! Haha. #NCIShawaii premieres September 20th.”

OK, NCIS: Hawai’i Fans, Did You Notice Any Crossover Clues?

In the 31 seconds, did you notice anything unusual?

Let’s go to Reddit and the eagle-eye musings of DizzyAd717. This avid NCIS fan noticed several key details in the trailer. There’s a SWAT Bearcat that crashes into the warehouse, which reminds the user of one SWAT team that has appeared in Hawaii Five-0.

“The SWAT Bearcat used to ram into the warehouse looks similar to the one used in Five-0 and Magnum P.I. Maybe SWAT Team 49 (the bearcat’s team number) will make another appearance. This could be a reference to Five-0 ramming into the warehouse in 1×01.”

Another user — MonkGlonk — spotted another NCIS: Hawai’i detail. The user wrote:

“Maybe a bit premature of a call but appears Dodge may have won the car contract again (like on mothership, where as NOLA had Ford’s). Looks like a fully blacked-out Durango in the background of the city crime scene (about 9 seconds in). It has red and blue lights in the window so not HPD (Hawaii in general uses blue and white lights) and therefore most likely federal = NCIS?”

So, do you think that some characters from Hawaii 5-0 may show up for NCIS: Hawai’i? We think it’s a safe bet that NCIS: Hawai’i eventually will do cross-over events with NCIS or NCIS: Los Angeles. It’s the way CBS likes to cross-promote its shows.

Show Creator Downplayed Crossovers Earlier This Summer

Earlier this summer, the NCIS: Hawai’i showrunner was downplaying the idea of crossover pollination, at least for the immediate future.

“We live in the same universe,” NCIS: Hawai’i producer Christopher Silber told TV Line. “But every one of them were spin-offs.

“We don’t make any connection to the other shows.”

By design, NCIS: Hawai’i also wanted to differentiate itself from the other NCIS shows. The series will be led by Vanessa Lachey’s Jane Tennant, the first female, special agent in charge.

There are some obvious details in the trailer. It’s starting to define Tennant. She says in the trailer: “You haven’t had the pleasure of my ‘we work as a team’ speech, but you can guess the bullet points.”

The NCIS: Hawai’i description of Tennant also describes her as “a single mother who often finds herself torn between running a family and running NCIS.”

We’ll all know more in a little more than three weeks. Stay tuned.
