“NCIS: Hawai’i is the newest offering under the NCIS umbrella. Like “Law & Order,” the new show enjoys the legacy of longstanding iterations that came before it. And where “NCIS: New Orleans” trailed off, the Vanessa Lachey-led series hopes to pick it back up.
Unlike its predecessors, the Hawaiian version of the show is the first to feature a female lead. Lachey and her co-star, Alex Tarrant, are making the most of their opportunity. Or so it appears based on a recent Instagram post from behind the scenes of the shoot.
Much to the cast’s delight, “NCIS: Hawai’i” is filming the show on location in the islands. Larry Teng, the director and executive producer of the newest spin-off, took an opportunity to wrangle his two stars for a photo at Pearl Harbor.

Joining Lachey as another female on the team is Yasmine Al-Bustami, who plays Lucy. Al-Bustami’s character is reportedly the most junior member of the team. Heading up the high-tech side of things is Jason Antoon. His character, Ernie, knows how to track someone down. Another big name is Noah Mills, he was a more recent addition to the cast, and his character of Jesse is an interrogation expert.
“NCIS: Hawai’i” is set to air in September, which means the crew is nearing the end of production on Season 1. And it’s safe to say CBS is excited about the show’s potential.
‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Star Vanessa Lachey’s Groundbreaking Character
Mark Harmon, LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell, Scott Bakula, and now Vanessa Lachey. Months out from the “NCIS: Hawai’i” premiere, there is a surprising amount of information available about the new lead. Fans are going to go into the show knowing what to expect from Lachey’s historic character. Of course, there are going to be plenty of surprises. But the producers weren’t sparing in their description of the Jane Tennant character.
They even went so far as to describe what happens when audiences first meet her.
“When we first meet Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, her brilliance and compassion are on full display when, after being pulled away from coaching her daughter’s soccer team, she heads to the North Shore to lead an investigation into a top secret Navy program. We can’t wait for viewers to get to know her and her team this September,” the executive producers told TVLine in an interview from mid-July.
