In an adorable photo, NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey cuddles her “first born” as she celebrates her dog on National dog day. Lachey plays special agent Jane Tennant on the series, which will premiere next month.

“Wookie’s expectations vs Wookie’s “new” reality. We Love you, Buddy! And you’ll ALWAYS be our first born! Happy #nationaldogday,” the NCIS: Hawai’i actress wrote in the caption.

On top of being an adorable dog mom, Lachey is also the mother of three children. The actress is the first female star of an NCIS franchise series, and she’s incredibly excited about the opportunity to do so on NCIS: Hawai’i.

“I am the first female lead of an NCIS franchise and I don’t take that lightly. And I’m excited to bring a different layer to this role and hopefully inspire this next generation of young girls and women. My character, Jane Tennant, a special agent in charge of NCIS, is a mother of a 15-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. That is real life, struggling (to juggle) life, love and work,” she said in a May teaser for the new show.

Vanessa Lachey’s Jane Tennant is a Single Mother and a Hard Worker on ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’

Vanessa Lachey will play a character who does her best to balance the serious work responsibilities she has along with raising her two children on her own. Seriously, she oversees 40 special agents, which is no easy task. Not only that, but Jane Tennant had to fight for the job in a “man’s world.”

“She’s making it work in a man’s world, and she doesn’t take no for an answer,” Lachey told TV Insider. “She finds her way into every opportunity she gets and comes out on the other end unscathed. At the same time, she’s human and she’s learning how to juggle her emotions and being a mother.”

But just because she’s the boss, Lachey explained that Tennant isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. She won’t be the type of boss to just “bark orders and sit at her desk.”

While some fans are skeptical about another spinoff in the franchise, many are willing to Give NCIS: Hawai’i a shot. It looks like the show will have a lot of parts of the franchise that people love. Still, it’ll put its own twist on things that’ll make it its own.

If you want to catch Lachey on NCIS Hawai’i, it’ll premiere on Monday, September 20th right after NCIS, which is moving to the Monday timeslot to help give the new spinoff a ratings boost. NCIS: Hawai’i is the fourth series in the NCIS franchise and the third still releasing episodes, with NCIS going into its 19th season and NCIS: Los Angeles going into its 13th.
