After weeks of anticipation, the “NCIS: Hawai’i” crew finally started filming last week.

After a traditional Hawaiian blessing, the cast and crew were ready to unveil the crimes and drama that will take place on Oahu.

Although the beautiful beaches and glamorous waters will certainly be a key backdrop on the show, there’s another place the cast will spend a lot of time. Similar to other “NCIS” franchise shows, “NCIS: Hawai’i” needed a headquarters for all the detectives, special agents, and other field workers to use as home base.

‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Headquarters

The director and executive producer of the upcoming first episode of “NCIS: Hawai’i,” Larry Teng, shared an exciting ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the new headquarters. Vanessa Lachey, who is playing the franchise’s first female special agent named Jane Tennant, led the ribbon cutting. Or, in this case, the “Caution” tape cutting. It was extremely fitting, given the circumstances.

She also brought in her fellow co-stars from “NCIS: Hawai’i” to help her make the cut. This includes Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, and Noah Mills.

Teng captioned the video, “Today we unveil #NCISHI headquarters for the first time. Months of design and construction went into this almost million dollar set. Grateful for our art, construction, paint, and set dec crews. Welcome NCIS ohana to your new hale.”

The new headquarters for the future crew of “NCIS: Hawai’i” is pretty breathtaking. It is a large, open-space designed room that appears to have an upstairs as well. There are gorgeous wood floors as well as desks in which future investigators will get to the bottom of key cases. Large beams fill up the massive, well-lit space.

Costs of Filming ‘NCIS’ Shows

It’s pretty clear why this set cost close to $1 million. While a show like “NCIS: Hawai’i” doesn’t seem like it would cost that much to create, the sets, costumes, makeup, and so much more needs to be factored into the overall price.

According to IMDb, the estimated production cost per episode of the original “NCIS” is about $2.5 million per episode. This is more than the cost of the actual set for “NCIS: Hawai’i” alone. Meanwhile, according to Mental Floss, “Game of Thrones” is one of the most expensive shows ever made with a budget of about $15 million per episode.

There are realistic-looking dragons that take a lot of money to make look not like a 1950s horror movie beast, actors that have become high-salary, and everything is also shot in exotic locations.

“NCIS: Los Angeles” is known for being the most explosive of all the “NCIS” shows. This can rack up a decent-sized budget as well.

The creators of “NCIS: Hawai’i” definitely kept cost in mind while creating the upcoming series. The CBS facility that was used to shoot “Hawaii Five-O” will now be used for “NCIS: Hawai’i” instead. Fans speculated that Hawaii would likely be the next “NCIS” location before it was announced. It would save money to film at this facility rather than pay to take it down.
