NCIS: Hawai’i star Vanessa Lachey is in the middle of filming the new show. And she revealed some sweet behind-the-scenes details.
Like, did you know Hawaii is a beautiful place, and Pearl Harbor at sunset is the best kind of spot to feel the magnitude of the Fourth of July?
The NCIS: Hawai’i star posted a family photo on Instagram. The snap featured Lachey, her husband Nick, and their three children, Camden, Brooklyn and Phoenix. She captioned it: “Aloha! Happy 4th to July from Pearl Harbor! So much Love & Appreciation for so many things!”
Lachey is the newest star of the new franchise, NCIS: Hawai’i. It’ll replace NCIS: New Orleans, which was canceled this spring and ended its seven-year run in late May. The new spinoff will be unique in its location as well as in its cast.
Lachey will portray Jane Tennant. She’s the first special agent in charge in an NCIS drama. Her character is described as energic, diplomatic, and a woman who thrives in a male-dominated profession. She’s also a single mom raising a son, so that can bring all sorts of plot twists.
NCIS: Hawai’i Began Production Last Month
NCIS: Hawai’i already is filming for the fall. In mid-June, the cast and production staff gathered for a traditional Hawaiian blessing on Mokulē’Ia Beach on Oahu. The other CBS shows based in Hawaii also did something similar to kickoff production.
The newest franchise wants to celebrate Hawaii’s culture and make it a feature of the show. NCIS: New Orleans did something similar.
The media team from NCIS: Hawai’i issued a statement about the importance of the blessing, writing “the constant motion of the ocean and how the moving ocean waters, driven by the winds and tides, connects the entire planet.”
Chris Silber, who was the showrunner for the New Orleans franchise, switched his services to NCIS: Hawai’i. Plus, Jan Nash and Matt Bosack, who were with SEAL Team, will help write and produce in Hawaii.
Other notable NCIS: Hawai’i cast members include Yasmine Al-Bustami, who will play Lucy, and Jason Antoon, who portrays Ernie, who specializes in cyber intelligence. Kian Talan is Alex, Tennant’s 16-year-old son. Show writers describe Alex as strong-willed, but still struggling with his parent’s divorce. Tori Anderson is Kate, who is part of the Defense Intelligence Agency.
NCIS: Hawai’i will be Vanessa Lachey’s biggest dramatic role. The 40-year-old is a former Miss Teen USA and fashion model. She’s hosted shows and starred in a reality series with husband Nick, who was the lead singer of the boy band 98 Degrees. His first wife was Jessica Simpson and the two starred in Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. He and Vanessa began dating in 2006 and were married in 2011.
CBS placed NCIS: Hawai’i in its Monday night programming. The original NCIS will be the show’s lead-in.
