Aloha, “NCIS” fans. The brand new spinoff of the long-running crime drama is just around the corner. In fact, the show reportedly began production on location in Hawai’i a few weeks ago with a traditional ceremony to honor the island state’s culture.
There is not an exact date for when “NCIS: Hawai’i” will premiere on CBS. But the show is slated to begin airing sometime in the Fall of 2021. The time slot has already been decided, and fans can catch episodes on Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET.
In the lead role is actress Vanessa Lachey. She is playing a character named Jane Tennant, the Special Agent who runs NCIS Pearl Harbor. It marks the first time an “NCIS” program has featured a woman in the lead role. In a CBS trailer teasing “NCIS: Hawai’i,” Lachey talks about her new role.
“I am the first female lead of the NCIS franchise and I don’t take that lightly. And I’m excited to bring a different layer to this role and hopefully inspire this next generation of young girls and women,” Lachey says in the video. “My character Jane Tennant is the Special Agent in charge of NCIS. She is the mother of a 15-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl and that is real life, juggling life and love and work.”
Who is ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Star Vanessa Lachey?
Most will recognize Vanessa Lachey from her as a guest host/correspondent on Entertainment Tonight. She has, however, done plenty of acting work as well. Over the past decade, she has become a pretty accomplished TV movie actress, starring in seven of them since 2010.
Her prior television show experience is impressive too. She has played small parts on shows like “How I Met Your Mother” and “30 Rock.” The new “NCIS: Hawai’i” star has also landed a few series regular parts on shows including “Dads” and “Truth Be Told,” both of which only lasted a single season.
The lead role on an “NCIS” show is a major milestone for her career. Though, she certainly has the experience to give fans confidence in the show’s choice.
