‘NCIS’: How Emily Wickersham Felt About Idea of Playing ‘Bad Guy’ on the Series

Emily Wickersham wants to know what it’s like to be the “bad guy.” The “NCIS” star wished that she could have broke bad on the show.

After all, they say that villains have all the fun, and Billy Joel definitely wasn’t singing about the evil dying young. In a 2016 interview with Good House Keeping, Wickersham discussed her role as Ellie Bishop on the show. But the actor felt some regrets she never got to play a villain on the show. Although, she admitted that she enjoyed playing Bishop as well because of her good nature. She’s a bit like a do-gooder.

“Yeah, I would always want to play one of the bad guys. Bishop is a goody-goody, but it’s part of what I love about her character. It’s fun. I got to work on some stuff about my character’s divorce and kind of get more emotional, but generally she’s pretty uppity and goody-goody, which is also fun to play,” Wickersham said.

Wickersham finally got her chance at the end of Season 18 with a twist of course. “NCIS” revealed that Wickersham’s character leaked confidential information about the team. As a result, Bishop lost her position on the team. But later, Bishop reveals to Nick Torres that was part of a plan for her to go undercover. What happens next remains to be seen. But Wickersham’s and Bishop’s time on the show appears to be at an end for now.

‘NCIS’ Characters Break Bad

But Wickersham must have missed out on the “NCIS” memo. Just because the NCIS team are the main characters, doesn’t mean they can’t do bad things. As a Reddit post commented on, the NCIS team has gotten their hands dirty at times to get the job done. Specifically, the original members of the team often acted with a disregard for the law.

And that’s starts at the chain-of-command with NCIS leader Leroy Gibbs. Back in Season Three, Gibbs murdered Pedro Hernandez, the man responsible for killing his wife and daughter. Gibbs acted out of a quest for revenge and vengeance. Covering up that murder later came back to haunt Gibbs seasons later. But it’s far from the only crime of passion he’s committed.

Take Season 18 for example. Gibbs wound up attacking and beating an animal abuse. As a result, he got suspended from the NCIS team. It’s far from the first time he let his temper get the best of him. But he’s hardly surrounded by saints either. Several members of the team, Timothy McGee and Abby Sciuto hacked into government agencies and committed cybercrimes to finish missions.

Meanwhile, both Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo have also killed before as well. So the NCIS team doesn’t always operate within the law.
