NCIS had a shocking season finale. While fans got what they wanted when it came to Bishop and Torres, it came at a great cost. Is their romance doomed now that actress Emily Wickersham has left the series? For those who need a refresher, the NCIS finale, which aired earlier in the year, said goodbye to agent Bishop.
Bishop left the team after revealing she was going undercover. The heartbreaking revelation resulted in a kiss between Torres and Bishop, which many agree was a long time coming. NCIS is notorious for its slow-burn office relationships. However, many fans aren’t satisfied with the way things ended. The fact that the two never got to make it official particularly stings.
It’s unlikely that Wickersham will return for season 19. However, many think that the relationship would be doomed even if she did make a couple of guest appearances. It appears that these two may have passed each other like ships in the night, not quite finding the right timing to make the relationship work.
Wickersham Left a Heartfelt Message after Departing NCIS
Many fans felt disappointed to see Wickersham go so fast. She said goodbye in a heartfelt Instagram post.
“This cast, this crew, are top-notch. I can’t say enough kind words about this group that I’ve had the pleasure of working with for close to 8 years now and 172 episodes later. This business is finicky and weird and consistency is a rarity. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a show where I got to show up and act and laugh and learn with wonderful people,” she said about her time on NCIS.
“A moment in time I surely won’t forget. Thank you CBS and NCIS for including me in a part of television history. Time goes fast. Eat it up but chew slowly.”
While it’s sad to see Wickersham go, hopefully, she’ll be able to appreciate the next chapter of her life just like she did during her time on the hit procedural. She may not be the only cast member who was eyeing departure last year, however.
Mark Harmon, who plays leading man Jethro Gibbs, may be eying an exit. If rumors are true, Harmon tried to exit the series, but CBS told him if he did, that they’d have no choice but to cancel NCIS. Harmon has been in the spotlight as Gibbs for nearly two decades now, but the show brings in unmatched numbers to CBS.
Regardless of what happened, Harmon will be back as Jethro Gibbs next season. NCIS was renewed earlier this year along with NCIS: Los Angeles. The all-new NCIS: Hawai’i just started production. The show and its spinoffs will continue this fall. While there may not be a Bishop/Torres romance to root for, who knows what kind of surprises the writers have up their sleeves.
