Former NCIS: Los Angeles star Renée Felice Smith’s new picture of her longtime boyfriend and pup is every dog owner’s dream snap.

The actress left NCIS: Los Angeles after its most recent season finale earlier this year. She is now pursuing other ventures. The photo is an adorable picture of both her boyfriend and her dog with their tongues out in a lavender field. If you’re a bit of an explorer yourself and want to chill in a lavender field, the spot is somewhere in East Marion, New York.

Smith and her boyfriend really dote on their dogs. In fact, Smith just published a book, Hugo and The Impossible Thing, which was inspired by her late dog’s battle with cancer.

Leaving ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Was Hard for Renée Felice Smith

While she felt she wanted to spread her wings and try something new for a while, leaving her co-workers and stable job behind wasn’t easy for Smith. The actress played Nell for years. Nell’s character left the series with Eric, played by Barret Foa. The two decided to pursue a new life in Tokyo.

Both Nell and Smith left the comfort of what they knew to branch out and try something new.

“It’s truly difficult when you work with people you love who have become your family, who become so much more than your co-workers. (That’s) a lot like me and our fabulous crew at NCIS Los Angeles,” Smith told Entertainment tonight. ”I do commend Nell for stepping into her power and really making a decision to serve herself rather than people-please and to serve others. It’s quite commendable.”

Thankfully, Nell’s departure was a positive one, giving her room to come back if the situation ever presented itself. Smith made that clear.

“The door will always remain open for Nell at NCIS, but right now, it’s time for Nell to really explore her next adventure. Nell is a smart girl, and she’s chosen stability for a good long time because it was the smart choice. But now she’s really questioning what she wants,” she said.

Smith, meanwhile, is pursuing her dreams of more creative work. She’s not only an actor, but a writer and director. She just finished up working on an indie film, and has other projects in the works. So even if NCIS: Los Angeles fans will miss her, Smith is far from stepping out of the spotlight.

NCIS: Los Angeles will have to continue on without Nell and Eric, and while it’s hard to see them go, fans are still excited for the upcoming season. Season thirteen will air on Sunday, October 10th on CBS. Hopefully, Smith will make a guest appearance sometime down the road.
