NCIS: Los Angeles is on hiatus, leaving fans to speculate about what’s next. Some are speculating that clues suggesting the return of Kessler may spell trouble for Marty Deeks and Kensi Blye’s potential adoption process. The couple struggled to have a child all throughout NCIS: Los Angeles season 12, and the alternative of adoption has been mentioned as a possibility.
NCIS: Los Angeles fans and publications alike have pondered how hard it’ll be if/when they eventually start the adoption process. Their jobs are incredibly dangerous, and with Kessler on the loose, it may be in their best interest to find him first.
David Kessler is at large after receiving a presidential pardon, meaning that not only is he free, but he has friends in very high places. The clue that things may go wrong for the adoption? The threatening postcard Kessler sent Kensi in the mail. It’s clear that Kessler is not finished with Kensi, and season 13 of NCIS: Los Angeles will likely address that concern.
Finally, NCIS: Los Angeles fans worry that the adoption process requires a lot of paperwork and online applications. Kessler, whose deeply obsessed with Kensi and has the connections, may be able to get access to those papers. Essentially, the villain poses a major problem for the couple and could potentially uproot their lives in ways fans haven’t even imagined.
‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Showrunner has Concerns of His Own
Showrunner Scott Gemmill talked about the problem with their careers when it comes to having a child. As much as the two want a baby, It’ll be hard when they both work such dangerous, high-demand jobs.
“That’s been a big dilemma for us as writers, because you don’t want to do something that makes your characters look negligent,” he told TV Insider.
“Would it be a wise decision to have a child when both of you are putting your lives in jeopardy every day? That’s a legitimate concern for the two of them and something that we will have to explore as we move forward. Whether Kensi is able to get pregnant or whether it’s going to be an adoption, that’s a tricky one because you want them to be happy, but you also don’t want them to look irresponsible.”
NCIS: Los Angeles will start production soon. Fans won’t have answers to any of these questions until the hit series returns in the fall. NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i will also air this fall, so fans should have plenty of action from the franchise. NCIS: Hawai’i is brand new, and production just began.
Hopefully, there’ll be a resolution to Kensi and Marty’s quest to have a child, whether it be through adoption or some other way. The two will likely have to figure out what to do with Kessler first, and discuss what their jobs mean for the future of their family.
