Daniela Ruah is pulling double duty on NCIS: Los Angeles. She’s still starring as Kensi Blye, but she also earned more director duties for the second season in a row.

Ruah posted a snapshot of herself on Instagram, as she directed an NCIS: Los Angeles episode. She captioned it: “Immersed” in English and “Imersa” in Portuguese. And she let the hashtags tell the rest of the story behind the photo. #directing #director #ncisla. Plus ncisla #work #bestcrewinhollywood #lovewhatido

She quickly received some encouraging words from fellow NCIS: Los Angeles castmate Caleb Castille. (Rountree).

“Can’t wait big sis,” he replied.

Ruah’s NCIS: Los Angeles Episode Called Lost Sailor Down

On Monday, Ruah revealed the news that she’s directing episode seven of this season’s NCIS: Los Angeles. Showrunners called the episode Lost Sailor Down. There is no synopsis, as yet, for the episode. The season premiere — Subject 17 — is Oct. 10. And we already know that the opener will bring Hetty (Linda Hunt) back, full-time, to the office.

The 76-year-old Hunt stayed away from the set during season 12 because of concerns with Covid-19. She did her scenes from her driveway. The show explained she was on assignment at a war zone across the world. Season 13 will provide more details.

The seventh episode of NCIS: Los Angeles is the third directing job for Ruah in the past year. Her first directing assignment was for the “Russia, Russia, Russia” episode that ran Feb. 21. That’s the episode in which Callen (Chris O’Donnell) is accused of being a Russian asset.

She Directed Movie in Portugal Over the Summer

Over the summer, Ruah directed a movie in Portugal. It’s called Os Vivos, o Morto e o Peixe Frito in Torres Vedras, Portugal. Translated, the movie title is The Living, the Dead and the Fried Fish. The filming started in late May, She usually spends a big chunk of her summer in Portugal, where she grew up, with her family and friends. But this time, she got to combine business with leisure. Her husband and two young children joined her in Portugal after three weeks.

Ruah’s first big acting break was appearing in Jardins Proibidos, a Portuguese soap opera. That translates to “Forbidden Gardens” in English. She also starred in the mini-series A Espia, which streamed last year.

Meanwhile, TV Line reported that Eric Christian Olsen will write an episode for NCIS: Los Angeles this season. Olsen plays Ruah’s husband on the show. In real life, she’s married to his brother, TV Line said Olsen is writing episode 19, which will supposedly be directed by Ruah. So it’s unclear whether Ruah will direct two episodes this season.

According to the same report, Callen still is romantically involved with Anna, as he tries to envision their future.

“We haven’t resolved how we want to end that,” NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner Scott Gemmill said. “We have a few irons in the fire. With those sort of relationships, sometimes we give ourselves some options, play out the season and see what feels right.”
