“NCIS: Los Angeles” has a question for its fans: Are you a Deeks or a Hetty?
The two characters differ in more than just appearance. For instance, one is verbose and meandering, the other is terse and circumspect. And that’s what “NCIS: Los Angeles” wanted to know about.
“When it comes to communication style, are you more of a Hetty or a Deeks? Discuss,” the show posted to its official Instagram account on Wednesday.
‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Fans Jump Into the Discussion
The post quickly drew an outpouring of comments from fans. Some identified with Deeks, others with Hetty, but all showed they’ve been watching the series.
“Probably Hetty!” posted one fan. “I keep things to myself and only speak when necessary!”
“Somewhere in between,” shared another fan. “Hetty’s too cryptic and Deeks [is] too much. Best show!”
But many fans confessed to being Deeks-like – much to their chagrin, and perhaps to their own detriment.
“Definitely Deeks,” another fan chimed in. “Not sure if that’s good or bad.”
“Deeks…” yet another fan posted. “Only this week someone said so ok you’re a storyteller and we need you to get to the point.”
“I wish I was Henrietta with her cunning & cool head but alas I’m Deeks!!” another fan admitted.
Major Hetty Drama in Season 12
Earlier this spring, fans were worried about Hetty’s fate. The character is a mother figure of sorts to the whole “NCIS: Los Angeles” crew. But during Season 12, she had been phoning in from a secret location.
Then, in April, Kilbride actually uttered the words, “Hetty’s not coming back.” He added, “I think it’s time we accept this mission she’s on may very well be her last.”
But were the show’s writers just building suspense or messing with fans? Or was Hetty on her way out? After all, she had said she was “nowhere I want to be.” Was she in danger? Were they planning to kill her off?
Then, in May, TVLine obtained on-set photos from the “NCIS: Los Angeles” season finale. They showed Hetty back for the season finale in person.
The reason for Hetty’s absence? Pandemic production precautions, showrunner Scott Gemmill told TVLine.
“We’re doing everything we can to keep everyone safe, and [76-year-old Hetty actress] Linda [Hunt] is a little extra special in terms of how we have to look out for her,” Gemmill said.
The showrunner said it was great having Hunt as Hetty back on set. And indeed, as the fans’ responses to the show’s Instagram post suggest, most of them couldn’t imagine the show without her.
