Start the countdown NCIS: Los Angeles fans. It’s finally time for the season premiere. And it looks like the first episode will be very Callen-centric.
So if you’re a fan of Chris O’Donnell and all the intrigue of his character, get ready for some G Callen action as he explores how Hetty (Linda Hunt) really did shape him.
The series social media account dropped a video clip on Twitter to hype the premiere, which is Sunday. NCIS: Los Angeles is the last of the three NCIS shows to debut for the fall.
“Finding out the truth — the whole truth — is never an easy feat. An all-new season of #NCISLA premieres Sunday, October 10th. Here we go.”
NCIS: Los Angeles Clips Stars with Chat Between Callen, Sam
We’re all kinds of intrigued. The NCIS: Los Angeles clip starts with a conversation Callen is having with Sam (LL Cool J), his partner.
Callen says: “My whole life, I have been searching for who I am. And just when I thought I knew, this comes out.”
And then there’s Hetty saying “the truth is a fickle thing.”
Sam gives Callen a warning, partner-to-partner: “You go down this rabbit hole, G, you might not like what you find.”
The NCIS: Los Angeles clip shows exploding cars and in another scene, there’s a heavily-armed Callen shouting “federal agents.” And in the montage, there are also flashes of all our favorite characters.
Premiere Also Sees Joelle, Callen’s Ex, Return
Here’s the official CBS description of the premiere, which is called Subject 17.
“While Callen suspects Hetty of keeping secrets about his past and Joelle surfaces in her quest to capture Katya, NCIS must track down an informant whose life is in danger. Also, Kensi and Deeks work to expand their family.”
Elizabeth Bogush, who portrays Joelle, Callen’s ex-girlfriend, returns for the episode. Olesya Rulin, who plays Zasha, will appear in Subject 17, too.
Count on Hetty being a bigger presence in the NCIS: Los Angeles premiere. Linda Hunt, who portrays Hetty, couldn’t work on set last season because of Covid-19 precautions. All but one of her scenes were shot on her driveway. Hunt returned to the set for one scene for last season’s finale in late May. It sets up this season’s action.
NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner R. Scott Gemmill told TV Insider that said Hetty’s secret mission will be revealed. And when it starts to fall apart, the whole team will be called in to help.
Plus, Callen will demand more answers from Hetty about how much she influenced him when he was growing up. Callen’s mother worked with the CIA and Hetty served as her handler. She was killed when she brought her two children from Romania to the United States. Years later, Hetty retrieved Callen from juvenile detention and helped turn his life around.
Two characters — Nell and Eric — left NCIS: Los Angeles in last season’s finale. Gerald McRaney, who portrays retired Admiral Kilbride, was promoted to full-time cast. So count on Hetty and Kilbride bumping heads.
