NCIS: Los Angeles celebrated Father’s Day by highlighting the top dad on the show. And that’s Sam Hanna, played by LL Cool J.

The official show account posted on Instagram: “Real life superhero check. Happy #FathersDay to all the amazing dads out there — we see you! “

Last time we saw Sam was in the season 12 finale. And his partner, Callan (Chris O’Donnell) was giving him all sorts of compliments on his ability to play both dad and mom to his two kids. Sam’s task in the finale was solving who killed a militarized dolphin. But his side story focused on his soul and parenting skills.

Sam was most concerned about seeing his son. Aiden, take his military flight test. So Sam and Callen headed to the beach to watch Aiden fly over in a jet. Sam definitely was a proud dad. Earlier in the season, Sam’s daughter was kidnapped.

Callen told Sam “You’re a great dad. You live a little crazy life, but when Aiden or Cam need something, you’re just there, like magic.” And that’s how Sam’s part on the season finale of NCIS: Los Angeles ended.

Off the set, the 53-year-old LL Cool J is the father of four children, all of whom are grown.

And Chris O’Donnell, the guy who plays Sam’s partner, has five children. He told Redbook magazine that he made a choice to stick with a lower-key acting career.

“When I’m sitting in the backyard at the end of the day with a glass of wine, watching the kids having fun and clowning around, for me, that’s what it’s all about,” said the NCIS: Los Angeles star. “I have my own worries and concerns and frustrations, but I’m doing something I love to do. My wife and kids are in good shape. What is there not to be happy about?”

Some NCIS: Los Angeles fans also are pushing for more characters on the show to be parents. And that’s a real possibility in season 13.

The official fan club for Eric Christian Olsen replied to the NCIS: Los Angeles Father’s Day tweet. The post said: “Hope next year you’ll be able to add someone else to this post #justsaying #givedensiakid.”

Olsen, who plays Deeks, is a father in real life. But on the show, Deeks and his wife, Kensi (Daniela Luah) are trying for children, but with no luck.

NCIS: Los Angeles show runner Scott Gemmill told TVInsider that writers are pondering whether to include a pregnancy or adoption storyline.

“That’s been a big dilemma for us as writers, because you don’t want to do something that makes your characters look negligent,” Gemmill said.

“Would it be a wise decision to have a child when both of you are putting your lives in jeopardy every day? That’s a legitimate concern for the two of them and something that we will have to explore as we move forward. Whether Kensi is able to get pregnant or whether it’s going to be an adoption, that’s a tricky one because you want them to be happy, but you also don’t want them to look irresponsible.”
