‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Star Eric Christian Olsen Believes There’s Only One Way For His Character’s Relationship To End, Here’s Why

NCIS: Los Angeles stars Eric Christian Olsen and Daniela Ruah once pondered the future of Deeks and Kensi’s relationship. In a 2017 interview, the star got candid about how she thinks their relationship will end. Ruah plays Kensi Blye, who is deeply in love with her now-husband Marty Deeks, played by Eric Christian Olsen.

And while NCIS: Los Angeles has definitely had its tragic moments. Neither Ruah nor Olsen could see a future on NCIS: Los Angeles where the two don’t stay together.

“I think the most actualization and definition of character has come from his relationship with Kensi. So I think that the obstacles that they’ve given to these two characters and how that has evolved in that relationship…I can’t see any other ending for Deeks to find happiness but somewhere within that [relationship],” he said. Their relationship has blossomed even further on NCIS: Los Angeles since the interview.

Daniela Ruah Thinks Deeks is ‘Home’ For Kensi

Daniela Ruah agreed.

“I think Kensi is looking for someone to call home. She ran away from home when she was very young. She’s very close to her dad and if you watch the show you’d know she was murdered, and she ran away from home because she didn’t have much of a relationship with her mom.”

For Ruah, it would just be too implausible for Kensi to end things with Deeks or vise versa. She also doesn’t think they’d kill off Deeks.

“For Kensi, every man in her life has been killed. First, it was her dad. Then, it was Dom, her first partner who was kidnapped and killed, and now Granger. So there’s this fear of proximity with another human being, but at the same time is this desperation to want to call someone home.”

Ruah also noted that Kensi found that home in her relationship with Deeks and the obstacles they helped each other through.

“I think it would be really really unfair if they didn’t end up together happily married with children or something,” she finished.

The Two ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Characters are Now Trying to Have Kids

Now, four years or so after that interview, the two really are trying to find kids. That doesn’t mean their quest to have children is all sunshine and roses, however. Throughout NCIS: Los Angeles season 12, Kensi and Deeks struggled to conceive. Now, the couple could potentially be eyeing adoption.

However, if they do, their adoption could potentially be sabotaged by Kessler, the NCIS: Los Angeles antagonist who is now on the loose thanks to a presidential pardon. The two also have to seriously consider how dangerous their jobs are before they decide to have children.

It’s a consideration also being made by the writer’s room. They don’t want the two to appear “irresponsible” should they choose to have kids in high-stakes careers.

Hopefully, the happy future Ruah and Olsen want for the characters will happen. And if you want to keep up with them, NCIS: Los Angeles will air its thirteenth season this fall on CBS.
