NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Olsen once shared his thoughts on why Kensi and Deeks make a great couple. Olsen plays the much loved Marty Deeks, who is married to Agent Kensi Blye. Olsen has been on the show for all 12 seasons but became a regular in season two.
Kensi Blye is played by Daniela Ruah, who is actually Olsen’s sister-in-law. Ruah has made similar statements about the success of this couple in the past. She agreed wholeheartedly when Olsen spoke up.
“One of the reasons this couple I think is so successful is that they both have confidence in their vulnerability,” Olsen said in a virtual ET Canada interview last year.
“If you look at all of the stuff that they’ve been through, the one through-line is they’re totally vulnerable to each other about falling apart and I think that’s beautiful,” the actor said. He also thinks that this couple is a good example of what should happen in real life: talking through your issues.
“I think you talk about the success of relationships in real life too. So much of the generations that came before us, nobody talked about anything and these two characters really talk through all their stuff,” he said. Turns out the couple is just really good at communication.
Olsen and Ruah once Said They Think Their ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Characters Should Stay Together
I think the most actualization and definition of character has come from his relationship with Kensi,” Olsen said. “So I think that the obstacles that they’ve given to these two characters and how that has evolved in that relationship…I can’t see any other ending for Deeks to find happiness but somewhere within that [relationship].
Now, the couple has definitely been given quite the obstacle. The two are trying to have kids, but have been unsuccessful so far. They’ve mentioned the potential for adoption. But having Kids could be complicated for the couple. They both work incredibly dangerous jobs, and producers have mentioned wanting to make sure they come off as responsible.
But while Deeks and Kensi will likely face obstacles next season, it won’t likely be at the expense of their relationship. If the actors have any say in it, fans can likely expect Kensi and Deeks to stay together for the long haul. Of course, that’s no guarantee, and NCIS: Los Angeles could pull a shocker.
NCIS: Los Angeles will air new episodes this fall. Season 13 will involve some major cast shifts, with Barret Foa and Renee Felice Smith both leaving the series and Gerald McRaney coming on full time. Olsen and Ruah, however, are both set to return.
